Why do we pay our taxes?

I've never been one who terrorises her...I knew people who used to enjoy doing that after a session at the Green Man though.

The Police havn't reponded to one call quickly. The labour government are so damn usless.

Personally I think you can trace this incident back to battle of hastings, if I'm being honest.

Another great OcUK police bashing thread !

As a former Special Constable I know just how busy the last weekend of the month is, the majority of people have just been paid. You have the usual raft of domestic assualts, random assaults in and around the pubs, drink drivers, RTC's, RTC's with drunk drivers etc.

The patrol was probably on it's way when it got diverted to a more serious incident, unfortuneate but the reality of a finite resource.

My sentiments. A few of my collegues at work are Specials.. I hear all the stories of how overstreched they are. Especially at weekends. One special getting asked to turn up to incidents by three stations at once.

I think its worse up here in fife etc

And I'd chase them off with something very hard (keyboard weight at least) while screaming SPARTAAA with a good mix of flem and frothing..

I would imagine, that they don't just work in one part of the force area - certainly not at night.

Your local station might only be open part of the day, but that usually just means that the bulk of the officers who are in your area are in cars and based much of the time in a larger station in a busier area - we have pretty much the same thing in my town, despite the town being something like 40k people now*.

Basically it's more effective given the relatively small numbers of people, and the large areas they need to cover to put them in cars/vans at night and floating between where they are needed, which makes miuch more sense than having half a dozen officers spending most of the night bored out of their skulls because they are based in a quiet area and don't have anything to do.

As Slinwagh says there was probably a patrol dispatched, but given that it was (by the sounds of it) a relatively low priority call the officers could have been diverted to anything from a major brawl, to an RTA, to a rape, or an "officer needs assistance".

*The station is nominally closed at nights/sundays, when most officers are in cars for faster response times.

You pay taxes because the crown needed money to fund fighting the Napoleonic wars.

They never got round to repealing tax collection, so you're still paying it.

That's the origin of Income Tax. Tax in general in this country's been around since at least Roman times.

We pay our taxes because we have no choice, taxation is legalised theft. Unfortunately some people are still working under the mistaken belief that letting the government take your money and decide how to spend it is the best way of getting things done, despite the huge amount of evidence to the contrary.

It's better than the american system where you have to pay for all your healthcare treatment and thousands of people die every year from cureable diseases....

...not to go TOO far off topic here, but as as american I can glady say YOU ARE WRONG...I pay £175 a month in N.I.....whereas back home, my sister and her husband pay $100 for their private health insurance which covers WAY more than the NHS here covers....here you have to buy your own glasses...pay for your own dentists....you're being blatently ripped off in this country for healthcare...Also, it's against the law in the states for a hospital to refuse to treat you...so even the poorest of the poor can get seen to.

There's no clubs in Kenilworth, which is the point I'm trying to make here.
Our local police station is open 9am - 5pm and closed on Sundays...the police force in this town are a complete joke.

I would understand if I lived in Leamington or Coventry where there is a booming nightlife, but at that time of morning in Kenilworth NOTHING is open...literally.

So what were KTPD up to then?!

I don't think you understand how the police force works.

There is no Kenilworth police force. You're served by Warwickshire police and they cover a wide area. If there were any major incidents in the rest of Warwickshire the officers covering your area would be diverted.

And I second the first reply. This didn't require a police response, there wasn't even a crime committed that required the police.

Do you know ridiculous it would be if everyone called the police when they heard some shouting / saw some drunk people. By all means call the police if you think it's necessary but don't expect them to turn up straight away for stuff like that.

Actually, the NHS is significantly better value for money than health care providers in the states, much f which is due to the inequalities in America with regards to those with or without health insurance, so that the rich get many unnecessary investigations (because they cost a lot... they pretty much always go for the more expensive option even if the information they give is equal), and the poor die of easily preventable disease because their healthcare is pretty much limited to emergency treatment.

That's a useless comparison since NI is not solely used for the NHS.

And according to the WHO the US is ranked significantly lower than the UK for healthcare. And that's despite spending as much as the UK and Japan combined. Last time I checked anyway.

Yes. That really requires police attention right enough. Aren't you a big boy?

Could not agree more!
You expect the police to drop everything for something as minor as this??? (Although if the driver is drunk then that is serious imho)
However your mum shouting that out the window is just asking to escalate the situation, would have been far better to go out and try talking too them like human beings!!

If you actually researched the us health system you will find that insurance companies do everything they can to avoid giving you treatment, thus even when you have insurance you still aren't guranteed treatment leading to many americans dying from long term illnesses like cancer needlessly. They may treat you in er without insurance, but you'll be paying for it. And NI != nhs, income tax + NI in the uk is equal or less than income tax in the usa for the low and middle earners. The nhs gives you infinite treatment and hospital stay time, no insurance company in the us does that.

There's a reason USA is ranked 37th for healthcare, and that's it. After watching documenteries and hearing from many people in the states, I can safely say the uk system is far better.

I suggest you watch this program.

Drunk and Disorderly, drunk in charge of a vehicle.

Theres two.

Thats what the police are there for, stop defending people who are NOT doing their job.

And how do you now that there were not doing there, job, they may have been diverted to a more serious incident.

If your not happy with the Police, join up and do something about it.

No, I PAY for the police to do their job, if they did it right in the first place there wouldnt be this conversation.
I dont agree with the way they do their job i'll vote for someone who will make them do their job.

You call them, they come down take 5 minutes of their valuble time and lace into the chavs, chavs go away, chavs are drunk in charge of a vehicle they get nicked possibly save someones life and prevent a more "serious" incident.
Its called preventative policing, and "common sense".
That then leaves idiot coppers more time to bust more chavs and clean the streets rather than clearing up the consequences of not dealing with them in the first place.

Oh sorry I forgot, Police officers do not pay tax do they!!

What do you base "do their job properly" on, you do not ,like I and others have said that they were not diverted to another incident.
