Anyone know much about Whisky?

I hope your tarring me with that brush mate.:)

Yeah, you certainly seem to know what you're talking about; as does platypus.

I'm just a whisky noob at the moment to be honest :p Hopefully I'll become an afficionado one day, but sampling quality whiskys can be an expensive hobby!

I'd second that. I got given a bottle of Jap whisky for my birthday and I must say it's jolly nice.
I've literally this weekend cracked open this. It's excellent. I've always preferred single malts, just because I find it easier to pick the tastes with my palette, but as blends go this is one of the best I've tasted. It's big, tasty and full of flavour.

The Japanese are basically the 'new world wine makers' of the Whisky world, and I think people discount them on that premise, but just like the Australians, NZ, Chilean, Argentinians, et al., who have of course now been accepted, people should really try them out.

I don't know as much as I want too, but I'm learning. I've spent quite a lot of my brothers money educating myself thus far :p.

People assume that if it is not from Scotland then it is not as good, the same in some respects with Blended whisky compared with single malts.

At the end of the day if you like it then buy it!

I think iBots getting himself mixed up...it will happily sit in a barrel maturing and taking on the flavours of the cask..it just wont mature once its been bottled

wine can mature further once bottled...gaining body and flavour

That was my understanding too.
