Your favourite piece of artwork?

I love art, but theres so many different pieces that i love, i tend to go for sketch work mainly, usually of building that currently stand. I like to admire how someone can draw something thats real so perfectly and precise to detail.

I remember this from when i was in primary school, one of my favs:

Not sure if it counts but I got these off DA a few years back :)

Everyone who walks in comments on them, I've stared at them for hours, several times they have been my desktop backgrounds - I think they look awesome :).
You arn't wrong, I think those look brilliant. :)

I want them!

Stumbled across a little gallery in Mousehole, Cornwall a few years back that featured the work of Cyril Croucher. He has a very distinctive style where everything is stretched vertically - I have print of one of his pieces but can't find an image of my fave. This is an example of his work though:

I'm a big fan of Lowry, in particular pictures such as:

I also really like The Scream by Munch and went to see it at the Munch museum in Oslo a few years ago (just before it was stolen).

I've loved that since my parents had a copy when I was a kid. Think I'll have that in my study when I retire.

gord, those Grimshaws are fantastic. The level of detail is amazing.

I think my vote goes to this Hockney:

...but I don't know why

The thing that always gets me about Dali's Elephants is how it tricks the eye so convincingly, you know they are just flipped, but if you look at one you are convinced its just a swan, and then its upside down and convinced its just an elephant.. amazing.

I like that Hockney too, the appeal for me is how he has still captured the feel of that scene with simplicity, a stark contrast say from the Grimshaws i posted.

Edward Hopper - Nighthawks

Love that picture too - I'm sure I've seen it before, but apparently it's in a museum Chicago - so perhaps I saw it in a book/magazine.

I would love to investigate the 'cheaper' arts scene - I bet there are thousands of very unknown talented artists who would love to sell their original work to get started. If anyone can recommend websites where original canvases are sold, it would be much appreciated.

I think anything by turner. People used to criticise the composition of his yellow sky but anyone who lives in the north west will be familiar with that particular colour!

In terms of architecture, my fave building is the George's Dock Building in Liverpool. Herbert Rouse was the architect and it's the REAL fourth grace!
