Alternatives to HTC Kaiser?

Afternoon all. I'm just about to change to O2 and was thinking of getting an XDA Stellar (i.e. HTC Kaiser). The main attraction being that it's pretty similar to my current old T-mobile MDA. I'll mainly want it to carry my calandar/contacts and sync with outlook also for checking email on the move (also quite fancy playing with the GPS but that would mainly be a toy).

However there are so many handsets out there that I'm not sure I'm going for the right thing - would you guys recommend that I look at something else?

Yes, having had a closer look I'm inclined to agree. The only other phone that seems to come close for me is the O2 Orbit 2 (i.e. the HTC Touch). Now I'm just wondering how those two handsets stack up?

I'd say wait until the Sony Xperia X1 is released, it's is no doubt going to be my next phone :D

I tell you one main thing that's holding me back from either of the HTC phones I mentioned is the screen size - at quarter VGA I think it's just a little bit on the small side to be able to view webpages. By way of contrast an iPhone resolution screen (which I think is only slightly largery) seems to be just about OK. Any thoughts on that? I guess I've only used devices running WM5 and it's possible news handsets make better use of the space they've got ... so can you read normal sites on a HTC Kaiser?

The iPhone screen is 320x480, so twice as many pixels as the Kaiser. This is probably why you find it easier to view websites more easily on the iPhone (along with the easy zooming feature)

Yeh that extra resolution really makes a difference. Are there any handsets - other than the iPhone - that have at least 320 x 480? I was really hoping that the current batch of HTC phones would have seen an increase in resolution but that doesn't seem to have been the case ...

The sony has no release date and a better screen and a slightly faster cpu.

Thats it, its the same phone with a few tweaks.

3" widescreen, 800x480 res vs 2.8" 4:3 ratio with 320x240
520mhz cpu vs 400mhz cpu
145g vs 190g
WM6.1 vs WM6
Looks nicer, various 'panels' for interface
Better camera, but it'll still be crap anyways

I use my E650 for viewing tv shows mostly, so a 3" widescreen with double the res will be awesome! :D

Over the past 3 years I always upgraded just 2-3 months before a phone's successor was released, so this time I am staying put until I can get the Xperia.

Plus the kaiser is 6.1 when you update it.
as for the panels, 5 minutes and they will be available to stick on the kaiser.

The screen alone is worth it to anyone who can be considered a heavy user of deluxe office PDA phones for office, internet etc.

Only question is... will it have the same video acceleration problems as the HTC?

And shaving 45g off the weight counts for nothing?

Not really, not enough to make me wait for a as yet undetermined amount of time to have exactly the same features my current phone has but in a nicer box.

Fair enough, so what improvements would you need for your next phone then?

What i want is the improvements made by the X1, what i am saying is none of them, for me at least warrant going without the core features the phone offers while i wait for it to be released.

My phone does everything the X1 does NOW in my hand, accept its not as pretty and it has a lower res screen.

As someone who uses those features, i have no reason to wait for it as the offer no real world benefit for what i use my phone for.

True, I've had my phone for 10 months, so it all ties up for me :)
