Since this morning everytime i place a dvd or game into the computer nothing happens at all, I go into my computer but the drive isn't even there.

Everything has been fine up to now, i'm running vista premium 64 bit

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

edit: it is a Pioneer 215DBK 20x DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter

I checked inside, and everything appears to be connected

Can you see the power light on the drive light up when the machine first posts and begins to boot?

I would check the connections first before you start delving into vista 64 troubleshooting, its easy to do and may just be your problem. Try connecting the drive to a different sata / ide socket on the mobo, try a different sata / ide data cable, try a different power connector as well.

Yeah, when I turn the machine on the drive lights up, also when i place a game into the drive i can hear it begin to load but then it just stops

Cant find the drive inside device manager also

I had this not to long ago with my plexwriter and had to bin it and buy a new one they are cheap anyway.

it should be listed in the bios as a connected device along with your hard drive/s , do you see it listed there at all? If your not sure where to look, please provide details of the bios version that you have.

If it has power yet it doesnt showing up in the bios its either an ide cable issue or its dead.

Ive had many optical drive just fail on me like that, I alway get branded ones to.
