Is this true about MSN?

Me being paraniod was wondering if theres a way to tell who appears ofline and also if they are blocking you. I came accross this and wondered if its true....

"There is a way to tell if someone has blocked you on MSN.

Go to Tools
Options
Privacy
then right click on the names in your allow list. If the option to delete is available then they have blocked you. If not they haven't."

By using this method you will only be able to ascertain whether or not you are on someones contact list... if you CAN delete them then you are not on their contact list. However if they have blocked you, whether you are on their list or not, the option to delete them will not appear!

Is there not a website that shows who is blocked etc somewhere. Sure I have used something like that before.

I always used this method (when I used PC). Not that I have or bother with many people on instant messengers. Adium(on mac) doesn't have this option though.

I thought that if someone blocks you then their name only appears in your list as their email address, rather than their 'screen name'.

it might be if they've removed you from their contact list as i've got a few people 'online' now that i haven't spoken to in a very long time but i have the delete option.

perhaps ?

I disagree with that assumption. Having looked at people whom I can delete, they all seem to be old friends who I haven't spoken to in ages and who have most likely deleted me as opposed to block me.
In fact, I even have the option to delete one friend who is currently online on my messenger right now, but that would throw even my assumption out of the window.
/edit - maybe that friend has deleted me but I haven't, so I can still see him online and maybe he doesn't see me.

If you wish to know who has blocked you, simply create another account and if they are online on that other/second account and offline on your original account then you know that they have blocked you.

to op: i think if you can delete them it means they dont have you on their list..

i noticed this years ago and always thought thats what it meant

also, i tried pidgin recently and i think that would tell you who has you added or not; dunno about blockage though
