Hi guys wondered if this was normal?

Had my fan profiles set up in rivatuner increasing from 40% up to 100% in steps of 20% at each 10ºC rise above 50ºC. I started to get freezes/crashes and noticed that the fan wasnt ramping past 40% and as the card was OCed it was reaching 90ºC.

When the core reaches 90ºC the game freezes then shortly after that the pc freezes completely and i have to press the reset button. Dont know why rivatuner profiles arent working so have set fan to 60% and everything is fine (tho noisy). Presume its not the memory being too hot as there are no artifacts before the crash. OCed as in sig.

So my question is: is the system supposed to shutdown at core 90ºC?

I cannot comment on the profiles on Rivatuner as I always strip the stock coolers straight off my Graphics Cards.

I would however reccommend the Thermalright HR-03 as a better solution for cooling. I see you have the CM-690 Dominator Case. The Thermalright will fit as long as your willing to loose 3 slots on your mobo and you can still fit a side fan on if you needed to.

You have to create fan profiles, then set launcher items and finally set scheduled tasks. Have a look at the guide linked from guru3d. You can set overclocks that are activated by 3d apps too.

And my GTS freezes at 75C when it's overclocked!

yea i've done all the profiles, launchers and schedules (tho couldnt see a launcher for applications?) Think Rivatuner is just having a mare so will reinstall it.

Still interesting to know about the temp tho, 75ºC is incredibly low!

you may be able to stick a hr-03 on the card, here is a pic of my 8800gt with an original model 1 hr-03 on it with an akasa amber fan.
fan runs at 620rpm via mobo fan control and max load temps after 4 hours of atitool = 53c
very good mod.

You have to set up hardware acceleration monitoring so that it knows when a 3d app is launched. Then set up a schedule for it.

Yeah, I thought so too but it's only when overclocked and I never really know how hot it is cos it's crashed so it's a bit of a guess. I suppose when you're pushing the processor to it's limits then it will crash more readily and maybe my card is generally more unstable when overclocked compared to other cards. Once I get it plumbed into my w/c loop then I hope to push it a little further.
