I'm considering the following amp; http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=CAMB-340R-SIL

With the Yamaha NSP110 speakers; http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=YAMA-NSP110

I know I could probably use better speakers perhaps as they are pretty cheap but HDMI interface would solve some hassle for the time being and I'm sick of switching optical cables over everytime I wanna use a different device.

I currently use a Z-5500 system with my Freeview, Xbox 360 and PS3, I have to switch cables over for each device which is just pure hassle.

So the main questions are;

A) Is it stupid to bother getting an amp of that cost with cheaper speakers?

B) How will it fair against my Z-5500 setup?

C) Can I upgrade the speakers down the line? (e.g. around September/Xmas time?)

Thanks. :)

Edit: Is there some kind of an optical switcher that could be used instead of switching cables around, without affecting sound quality? If so I'll probably get the new amp/speakers later this year and save some money for now. :)

Do you have a PS3 by any chance?

If you do and you do get that amp I'm very interested to see if you can get the optical sound to work.

So PLEASE get it ;)

For only £30 or so more you can get a Yamaha DSPAX761 amp, which is highly reguarded as one of the best amps in it's price range from what I've read.

Considering getting the Yamaha amp in the future myself :)

Cheers for that will go for that now I think!

I do have a PS3 but looks like I'll for the Yamaha now. :p

So anybody got any opinions on the speakers? Do they have just one tweeter like the Z-5500's do? I'm struggling to find any reviews on them. :(

If I were you, I would pick up a good quality set of second hand stereo speakers at auction and then build a quality 5.1 system over time. This will hold its value and sound better than a cheap 5.1 boxed system.

Just my 2p worth...

I do intend on doing that eventually the only problem is I'm not sure if I wanna go without 5.1 for the time being, I can't get the amp/speakers without having to sell my current Z-5500 system. :(

Though I could just save up and look at this again a few months down the line, Z-5500's will have lost more value though. Decisions. :p

Can you not just get a switching box and keep the Z-5500 then?

Are they practical? I swear I saw something about an optical switchbox and it was about 90 pounds, unless that was something else. :p

If they are at a reasonable price then I'll likely get that for the meantime and save up some money then splash out on a seperate amp+speakers. :)

"3-way digital switch" in google. First result.. £1.99 from a well known retailer. Worth a try for that price. Its not remote but its a good solution till you get the cash together to go full 5.1.

Cheers for that, I might consider buying the Yamaha amp in a few weeks then slowly add onto it. :)
