I have some 80mm holes in the back of my desk and I want to put some unused fans over them to exhaust the hot air from the back of my case. Is there a way to make the mounting markings perfectly square with the hole or is it just a case of doing it by eye?

The holes will not be 80mm for a 80mm fan anyhow.

You can Google for a Template for any Fans you use inc 80mm, this will give you the Screw Holes also.

I didn't say they would be 80mm? On an 80mm fan the mounting hole gap is 100mm. My holes and fans are both 80mm so a perfect fit, if I can but centre them properly. I'll google for fan templates then, ta.

If you use a light adhesive such as a silicone glue you can glue the fans to the inside of the desk. With them on the inside of the desk, it won't matter if the fan housing is square or not as you won't be able to see them. And the silicone is easily removed if needed. Unless I am misunderstanding your initial post.....which is entirely possible.
