Hi all, new to this forum so sorry for any newbie hiccups.

I recently built a Pc for me mate.
AMD X2 5200
Asus - M2N4-SLI
2 gig DDR2 XMS Corsair ram

It was running fine for a while then over the last few days it has been shutting itself off. There is no pattern to it either, one minute you have turned it on then CLICK it turns off. I am wondering if it thinks that the CPU is too hot and is just clicking off. I have reseated the CPU fan and also made sure there is no crap in it but it hasn't made any difference.

Just wondered if anyone has any ideas?

Cheers

Hi and welcome :)

Have you monitored the temps in Windows to see if they get very high?

Also which PSU is being used?

I haven't managed to get into windows recently to see what the temps are like. It has now been switching off after the post screen and sometimes the black screen with the windows logo on.

As for the PSU, that is 500w

Try it with just one stick of memory.

I have, it didn't make any difference. I tried each stick on it's own in every different slot. I have heard that sometimes the temp sensor can be faulty on some of these boards, is there a way that the shutoff when hot can be disabled in the bios?

I'll have to have a look and see if I can get into the bios before it clicks off and try and disable the temp shutdown. I have got the battery out of the MOBO at the moment to try and discharge the memory.
