Rider is killed in motorbike race

Is that the one just outside of Belfast?

RIP :(

It's about forty mile south west of Belfast.

If there's a death in each of the major road races every year, I can see regulation killing the sport off. Dundrod usually ends up with a death or a serious injury as does Cookstown (has Cookstown raced yet or is it this month?).

It's a sad state of affairs but the risks are there and the riders know it full well. Oh well. RIP Marty.

Here are a few images of the rider in question. I am not to sure if this is it after seeing the image on the bbc site

RIP. :(

Read about this over on the Bikers Oracle this evening after getting in from work.

A talented young rider full of promise.

Road racing is a seriously dangerous game. The guys that do it have balls of steel and to be quite honest, although its the same thing - racing on two wheels - they are a world apart from racers who stick to closed circuits. Anyone who has been to actually watch the IoM TT, Manx or NW200 will know what I mean.

I imagine he appreciated the risks and died doing something he loved.

Tragic.

Thoughts also for the spectators injured. :(

Married, Father of one - yet still chose to participate in a race that people die in regularly.

Chose to risk his childs chance of growing up with his/her father, for a bit of sport.

Yes, "Special Breed" indeed....

Life is a race that people die in regularly.

You can't change who you are - and road racers are road racers. My parents tour Europe on a motorbike on a pretty regular basis, that's dangerous. Should they stay indoors in case they die and leave me without a mum and dad? Should they *******s.

Road racing is probably statistically no more dangerous than road riding - if I have kids, do you think I should give up riding a motorbike? Even though it's a massive part of my enjoyment of life, and a part of who I am, even?

He died doing what he loved, what fed his Soul. It's either that or die in bed aged 100-something having muchos regrets. RIP anyhow, but good you lived more in one day than some people live in a lifetime. Good on ya.

Feel sorry for his family though :(

Shortrack racers have two things to worry about: the armco on the left and the armco on the right.

Road racers have trees, posts, fences, verges, bales, barriers, armco, buildings, bridges...

Yes, there are some very fast riders in AMA, BSB, MGP et cetera...But I havefar more respect for road racers.
