Thats just BS right there I paid £44 3 months ago for an extra 2 years warrenty and now mine is protected until march 2009, if it breaks after that I doubt they will be that expensive and by then these problems will have been sorted.

Just like most call centers they have no clue.

Seems its gone up in price its now £59.50 for 2years.

Purchased mine on Thursday.

I'm buggered if i'm paying £280 (or whatever they currently sell for) for a console and then another £60 for a 2year warranty because the manufacturer is sending unreliable crap out of the factory door.

Seriously this issue needs sorting out!

Edit: Looking at things, the PS3 isn't really as overpriced as people are making out, if you take into consideration that the build quality is better than that of the 360, Multiplayer and blue-ray out of the box.

For example:

Xbox 360 Premium - £270
Xbox 360 HD DVD Player - £110
2 Year Guarantee - £60
Xbox Live Sub - £40

Total = £480

You can get a PS3, HDMI Cable and a Blue Ray Movie for £400

Nobody says the PS3 is overpriced, they say its expensive and for a games console it is.

Basically it works like this:

PS3 - All-in-one solution with a hefty price tag
360 - Cheaper and gives you the option to mix and match, but overall the more expensive when everything is added on.

The 360 doesnt need all that extra stuff for it to work, then after you just buy what fits your needs. Not everyone needs a HD format + Wi-fi.

In the end just buy which ever console has the games you want to play.

I know this reply will mean nothing to anyone but me but........................

I HAVE THE BEST GRAN IN THE WORLD

She just popped along to the shop with me and bought me an Xbox 360.

She says she don't want the money back but I will re-pay her back and also be doing a lot of choirs for her.

God I love my gran, she is the best and always bails me out of bad situations and never refuses anything I ask for (which I try to keep to a minimum).

Anyway I ain't even plugged it in yet but just wanted to tel lthe world MY GRAN F'ing RULES!

Will reply later on my views of xbox 360.

BTW I bought it new and it came with Gears Of War & some Crackdown game I never looked into yet.

ALso got Viva Pinata 2nd hand as want to give that a go...

oh BTW MY GRAN ROXXORZ.

Me so happy, lets just hope I don't boot it up into 3 red rings of death out of the box, as tbh I been so lucky to get this far that it would not suprise me if it did.

MY GRAN RULES.

I have a ps3 and a 360.
The build quality of the ps3 makes it the rolls royce of consoles.
But the way things are going software wise the 360 is going to end up the peoples console like the ps2.
Sony have a long way to go to catch up if they ever can.

Well what a mixed bag of nuts this thing is.....

Here is my view of it so far.....

1) It sounds like switching on a hoover, wtf is all that about? It is so noisey compared to my quiet PC and i have to have the volume of the TV on loud just to drown out the noise.

2) Boy does it get hot, so hot it is scary.... my PC never gets that hot and it is also quiet... so why does this hot brick get so hot and so noisy? (Side problem is the cat seems to like the heat from it and so likes to get near it)

3) I was dumb enough to thought it had internet browsing... yes all point and laugh at me (must be the PS3 that has that?).

4) It has been so long since I used a console that I can not get used to the sensitivity of the controls and for some reason I can not find an option to change there sensitivity :(

5) Silly me thought it had WI-FI built in to it :(

6) I so need an xbox 360 keyboard for MSN messenger on it, also why can I not log in offline auto like on pC and always show as online? Even when I change to offline next time I log in I show as online and cant be arsed to type using controller to say im on the 360 and not on the PC.

Apart from the above I do like the GFX and games, also the demo downloads and arcade are great and lots of fun.

So I am not slating the console and I am still happyish I bought it, Just still very scared due to its noise, heat and wrongly thinking it had internet browsing capability (FFS If a mobile phone can do it then why not an Xbox with MSN messenger and internet connection and downloads not...... or have I missed this somewhere and so showing myself up?).

Having to now pay for extended warranty and also wi-fi and a webcam compatible with it different to my PC one also stinks. Also lack of USB for my Mini-Disc and Digital Camera to use at same time. BTW why no firewire?

Anyway that's my views. Still a good purchase but some annoying things missing and still a lot of paranoia.

friend of mine has 3 versions of saints row, 2 versions of fightnight and 2 versions of splintercell, all due to the fact the console is scratching the disk, now this is a very common problem about xbox's now and microsoft isnt doing much to help all their customers.

i would stick to pc gaming or if you really want a console go and get a xbox elite when they are arrived, or atleast wait untill they have been tested, the whole ordeal of my friend getting some many versions of the games because of the disk scratching put me off xbox all together.

Well if mine gives me those problems I mayl not think twice about starting a class action in the UK against them type website and see how it goes for sign-ups to split the cost (I been around the net to know how quick It could gain momentum at the sites specifically complaining) due to the obvious problems.

Maybe me just me being arsey talking crap as I've had a few drinks but it ain't that hard to do in principle if it is so widespread. atm though my console is alright, but if it goes under like so many than boy am I gonna be annoyed

Amazing there is none yet here as there is two in the USA still in pre-court status.

I can not complain at this moment in time as I am still in the honeymoon stage and have not got the disc scratching or the rings of death.

P.S. I was somewhere earlier which had leaked photos of the new MoBo, Heat sink & Fan design they been trying to sneak in and keep secret to still refuse any of the past problems have been due to there faults (May of been posted here... I'm sleepy atm so not 100% sure).

Isnt there 2 extra USB Ports under the flap in the front of the console? I havent got a 360 but i thought there was 2 extra ones there (unless of course youre already using them!) Firewire is an apple baby i thought guess thats why.

K, my bad.... never realized the ones under the flap at the front.

Still... no firewire...why?

Just my Mini disc player and Digital camera uses them... although I am guessing they could also use USB if I buy the cables to fit?

Also I trust if I buy a vision camera & WI-Fi it ain't gonna take up them slots or I will be back to square one?

Take the plunge, your'e focusing too much on the negatives, think of the fun you can have instead :)

I lost major touch with consoles a long time ago and bought one, one of the best things I did, so much fun to be had. Like someone else said, you got your warranty anyway.

Do it.

Sorry to bring up a thread almost a year old but something happened and I thought of this thread I started with my fears of buying an Xbox 360 and.....

Yup, It has just died on me giving the E74 error everytime I switch it on ;(

No more GTA IV for me.

Well it lasted me almost a year, thank god it is still in 1yr standard warranty as I do not think the extended 3yr one covers the E74 error?

I hope they fix it fast and reliably and that i will also get another free 1yr warranty to cover all things not RROD related (Wonder if that one resets too for another 3yrs?).

Well I knew it would come sooner or later and it did.

My biggest fear now is them taking ages to fix it and then send it back only for me to switch it on to get the same error.

Oh well, happy days... not.

Why not just take it back to the store you bought it from?

I took mine back to a well known shop which sells games in the highstreet and they took it back no probs and gave me an elite for my premium model (price match).

Mine was over heating and not reading discs. Say it has 3RQOD though :)

..oh, also got an extended 3yr shop warranty for £20. :)

All the best.

You're reading reports of older Xbox360's which failed quite a lot (mine never did, it just blew it's GPU), but the new ones are miles, miles better.
Edit: Silly me, it's an old thread :p.

Edit Edit: Just take it back to the store you bought it from, they're required to swap it for a new one within 12 months.

I remember when I bought it and asked the store that they said they only changed them within the first 3mths for new consoles and only 1mth for 2nd hand consoles.

I have already asked microsoft for my coffin anyway and TBH i'd rather go via microsoft as I just know that the shop will argue with me and repeatedly tell me to contact microsoft as it is not there problem even though I know by trading standards they should accept it back and change it.... but as I say I just know they wont.

I would maybe try it if I had a letter of law and there head office telephone number and try demanding it that way maybe.

But talking to some stupid person behind a shop counter, who can not understand why I do not take it to microsoft, I think would break me into losing my temper and doing nasty things involving atleast one employee, his head meeting a till, a wired controller around ones neck and shoving a few game boxes where they would need an X-ray to get them removed from said employee.

BTW I bought it from a Grainger Games store which is a small chain that runs through the north of England and south of Scotland (dunno if anyone knows them and has had any luck).

You are right to be concerned as the 360 is a Mans console, There is really no need for you to get one if you are one of those New age men who are more like a woman & worry like ****** about every little thing.
The 360 Manbox is state of the art console goodness & like every cutting edge product had it's teething problems. It may blow up, It may catch fire & it will definately eat one or two discs just for the sheer hell of it. Real men say "So What" I'll fix it or buy another & get on with Glorious gaming whilst it still runs sweet.

You can now decide whether you have big enough Kahoonas to own a 360.
