I've got the OCUK value one on order right now, but the order is delayed due to some things being out of stock.

Is it worth the extra £40 to upgrade to the Benq?

I'd assume the Benq had a better contrast (while they are rated the same, the OCUK has a higher maximum brightness which may be used to give an inflated contrast rating as no one would use it at 500 cd/m brightness without sunglasses!

Another thing is the Benq has HDMI. While right now that isnt that important to me, it may be in the future.

Also read a few things which appear to be not so good about the OCUK one (buzzing mainly). Though it does have a higher viewing angle.

But these points aside, preferences?

I'm also wondering this, looking to buy one next week and hoping to find out which is the better monitor. The OCUK one looks damn good, and im now swaying towards that, but, i currently have a BenQ and its been fantastic with no problems, so, its a choice between something i know and trust, or saving myself a bit of money.

Also, people should stop worrying about not having an HDMI input; DVI and HDMI are pin compatible and use the same protocol to send information. All modern screens (with a few exceptions) support HDCP over the DVI port so all you need to get HDMI inputs to your screen is purchase an inexpensive HDMI <--> DVI cable.

Having, since my last post a minute or so ago, read a few posts in the thread about the ocuk monitor, im quite put off, seems that you need to send it back a few times in order to get the VA pannel.

Is the viewing angle gunna be that much different on the BenQ to the OcUK one?

I also dont want backlight bleeding or anything like that.

They sorted out the VA problems last month, your now pretty much guaranteed a VA when you place your order, i received a ocuk one last week and theres some background bleeding but i reckon its just due to me being very unlucky, gonna rma it and get a replacement which should hopefully be fine

OcUK 24" in my opinion. I have one (VA panel with no backlight problems at all) and it's fantastic! If you're going 24" then in my opinion you should be wanting a VA panel, so you can enjoy it to its full potential (I use it as a television too!).

was having another look at my ocuk monitor, the backlight bleeding is getting better, only appears when your looking at it side on which is kinda strange but it seems to be vanishing, but might still rma it as im still gettin a low buzz noise from it but if it wasnt in the same room as where i slept it would be perfect

but don't let this put you off, its an amazing monitor none the less, think i just got a slightly faulty one, but even with my bad luck and getting these faults its still a bargain for £200

Depends what you're using the panel for. Gaming/a bit of browsing and office work will be fine on it. If you are a pro photographer then go for something else that has an IPS panel (so not the ocUK PVA one).

It doesn't matter what you're using the panel for, it's superior to a TN in every way. A pro photographer wouldn't be buying a £200 monitor, they'd be spending £600+, so that comparison is void.

A VA panel is to a TN what a Porsche Carrera is to a FIAT Brava.

I assume the BenQ uses a TN pannel then?

Im more inclined to get the BenQ after reading the thread on the OcUK monitor, seems people have many, many problems with them, the most annoying would be the buzzing noise. I really dont want to go through the hasstle of RMAing it countless times in order to get the right thing, and get it working as it should.

Leaning way more towards the BenQ now.

90% of the time it's only people with problems that post here. So it does tend to be a bit biased that way.

I've had mine, a VA panel since before Christmas.
Only 1 problem. Very faint horizontal lines across the screen.
Fixed it by taking the blinds down and putting curtains up. :D

For me, coming from a 22" CRT it's been a revelation. :)

OCUK is just one version of that monitor, there are others that are better and have HDCP. Google "Yuraku 24'' YV24WBH1".

Found one of those you mentioned. Looks very good, but im not so sure, as im always a bit skeptical about buying from companies ive never heard of before, i generally go on recommendations.

Would the benq really be that bad for gaming?

Edit: found one of those on a site i know. Would there be much difference between 1000:1 contrast ration on the benq and the 800:1 contrast ration on the yuraku, and also the response time, will 6ms be a problem?

Wow, wish I had checked back, didnt realise this thread would take off a bit.

My order got processed and I've got an OCUK value one on the way. Wish I had know about the "Yuraku 24'' YV24WBH1" sooner. But shall see what the OCUK one is like.

If it has any problems it is going back. Value or otherwise, it was still over 200 quid.

Really wish the OCUK one would have been able to use HDMI or had HDCP.
