serious question ;)

last night while heading home from a poker game I pulled along side my brother in his 650i

was a bit wet and I struggled for traction ( surely he had same issues ) but being big kids we had the usual traffic light grand prix start, over about 400yds he pulled about 2 car lengths clear of me

was this down to traction ? surely his barge can't be quicker

please put my mind at rest ;)

Once you've overcome the cars initial mass while at rest, weight plays a relatively insignificant part in the result. If he has more power than you do (which I think he does) and it was a rolling start, he will win. Did he take the lead from the word go?

was a standing start ( conditions may have affected it ) but yes he seemed to have the lead from the start :(

From what I can gather he has about 30bhp on you.. but considering you should be quite a lot lighter then it must just have been traction. I will go completely against what "The_Dark_Side" has said in that weight plays a big part in a traffic light GP start. I think perhaps he is confusing the effect of weight on speed, not acceleration. It's not just the inital take off that weight effects, otherwise we would see a lot of lorries with low 0-60 times.

In that case, I suggest you read my post again.
What I actually said was, once you've overcome the cars initial mass, weight plays little part in the performance figures. Accelerating it from zero mph is most definitely affected by weight.

Maybe the lard on his helped him get more traction? id say it was a traction issue

or

You drive like a gayer lol

I had TC on , I would assume he did too

Hi there

That is why you lost m8!

DSC is useless for quick starts whether it be wet or dry. The moment it detects slip in something like the M3 is saps way too much power really bringing you to a halt.

DSC needs to be off for fast starts as the best starts always have a percentage of wheel slip. Still saying that launching an M3 in the wet or poor conditions is not easily done as they will light up the rears quite easily or you just have to back of the throttle quite a lot.

Do the same in the dry, you will kick his ass. The standard M3 does 0-100mph in circa 12s, wheras the 650i will no doubt be more in the region of 14s which is quite a difference. However you need to use your revs/gears, the 650i will have a lot more torque than the M3 and as such can get away with higher gear and relying on torque more......
