argh!!!!!!

Purchased 9800gtx to use with MSI P35 Neo2-FR Intel P35 in an antec180
looked like it was goin to b tight fit but removed middle drive cage and then discovered sata(4) plugs are under card and it wont slot in,tried next slot for card but again sata(1) and power switch connections under it prevent it from slotting all the way down

apart from losing 4 sata connections any bright ideas or is it a case of box it up and send it back

thx

May as well just lose the 4 sata connectors tbh, or if you need them, send it back and change it for the cheaper 8800 GTS 512mb as its shorter, but its the same card, just doesn't have 2 SLi connectors, only has the 1x, so you can't TRi SLi 3x of them. :)

Does it hit the connectors when they are empty?
If not, maybe some SATA leads with little right angled plugs would fit?

It's not one I ever thought about, you spend all your time worrying about it clearing the bays really.

Having looked at the board on google it looks lilke only 2 of the 5 ports would be obscured. If you can live without those then just keep the card.

Excuse the rushed paint skillz!:

If you have trouble with that card there's a chance you might have problems with the next generation of GPU's.

no when connectors are empty its fine just cant live without all of them. 3 harddrives and one dvd writer, think il question is do i buy another board for e8400 if im going to have trouble in future or send card back for exchange or refund. only wanted card for new 30"dell n dont game to much, any other cards that would fit, currently have 850xt

If you don't game too much then i'd say get a medium level card that can manage the 2560x1600 resolution.

My preference would probably be OCUK's 3850 512mb card (made by triplex) as i has a short PCB:

TBH - looking at the pic you might even find the card will not cover any of the SATA ports. :)

Other alternatives would be the 8600GT/GTS which i believe are also quite short.

That cable wouldn't be short enough, I had the same problem when I ordered a couple off *bay. The ones that ASUS ship with their boards though, are the best, problem is getting hold of extras.

trying to send it back but there not being helpfull(not overclockers) have to see how it goes,if it come to the worst il have to buy sata pci card or sell it second hand

The Neo 2-FR cannot support SLI, without some hacked drivers (apparently). It cannot support Tri-SLI due to having only 2 PCIe slots. It supports crippled Crossfire, at 16x/4x.

yours sincerely, a Neo2-FR owner

so a 8800 wont fit either, il have to measure it tonight and see just how big it is, couldnt find the card pictured above but looking at 3850 they all look fairly long

Had to measure my 3850 for a buyer on the bay when i sold it - it was 187mm long versus 229mm long in the case of a standard 8800GT PCB.

4cm would surely clear those SATA ports.

somthing tells me GOB14 wants something a bit more powerful than a 3850
What makes you think that?! ;)

Perhaps the 3870 from Triplex could be an alternative. Same compact PCB as far as i'm aware.

Past that i think his only options are to -

1: change mobo
2: get a pci/pci-e sata adapter
3: wait for the next generation of cards and hope there's a compact version
