All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Pennant's not caused any trouble since being with us and it was only the other week Rafa was praising his attitude. After being left out of the CL squad, rather than sulking he asked if he could play a game with the reserves to keep his match fitness up.

And if you got £6m for Smith on the back of his work-rate then we still hold some hope of bringing in the bulk of Kuyt's fee. He works just as hard and at least he can still score every now and then :p

Wasn't Pennant at Liverpool when he ran Ashley Coles Beemer up a lamppost?

Edit: 3 penalties and a goal from open play don't count as 'every now and then' Baz!

Hearing a few rumours regarding our transfer dealings via various message boards. Looks like we're definetly in for a central midfielder, Sidwell, Tonge and Bradley being our main targets. I'm guessing its a case of one of the three and if that is so i've got to say i'd rather have Bradley. Apparently we're also looking at Barragan to come in at right back from Deportivo.

As for the outs, looks like Roberts is going which is a shame as he's been playing really well lately, him and Santa Cruz seem to be finding some sort of partnership. Rigters is another name being thrown around, hes 24 at the minute and hasn't really had a chance to find his feet due to injuries. If he does go it'll be a shame cause I was looking forward to seeing him play a few games for us. Enkleman, Mokoena and Berner are also rumoured to be on the way out, hopefully we can get some youth players in to fill their spaces on the bench :p.

I've also seen some clown saying we're going with two bids of 6 million each for Bellamy and Cisse, if people are going to make up rumours they could at least make them relatively plausible. I'm not sure if we even have that much to spend this summer!

No that was before he joined and Kuyt has 11 goals in all competitions which isn't that bad considering he's played on the right more often than not this season.

Steve Sidwell would be a good buy, if he could be lured from Chelsea

edit: in response to m0r94n

He would be a good buy but I can't see him dropping his wages to play for us. Isn't he on something like 50,000 a week there? This would definetly need to be dropped to around 20,000, especially with the tight budgeting at the club.

Thats still a poor return. Darren Bent has 8 this season and he has hardly been a regular, unlike Kuyt.

Bent has played as a forward, Kuyt has mainly played on the right and even the games earlier in the season he played a withdrawn role behind Torres. I'd doubt that there were many wide players that have scored more than he has this season.

Pennant has got ability and has shown signs of brilliance on the few games he has played this season. The problem is that playing for Liverpool, and under Benitez more specifically, he's not being used at all. And when he (Pennant) see's that a player like Kuyt is starting in his position ahead of him... that can't be doing wonders for his confidence.

I think in a team that would play him regularly and rely on him to create chances and be a general threat upfront he would shine. Give him responsibility and belief to feel he's a valuable asset to the team and he'd reward.

If we (Liverpool) used our heads this summer, we should be able to get quite a few pennies for him.

EDIT: I do NOT want Darren Bent ffs. Benitez look to the continent for a winger please.

David Bentley?

Not really, you don't expect your own players to reccommend another player leaves your club, especially a player of importance.

David Bentley?
Nope. BBC says he's only got 9 this season and all i was saying was there aren't many not any.
Berger has been dismissed by Martin O'Neil after his opinion on Gareth Barry potentially leaving Aston Villa. A bit harsh?

I don't think he was going to be given a new deal anyway so effectively he's only been handed a 1 match ban and thats the least he can expect.

I've backed Kuyt in the past, feeling that he works hard and doesn't really get enough opportunities, but in the first leg against Chelsea I thought he was definitely not good enough for a side wanting to challenge for the top honours - and he scored a goal!
