Am I the only person who doesn't like football in this country?!

I love football - fair enough it's not to everyone's tastes, but then I don't like R&B - shall I make a thread saying "I hate it, let's get rid of it!" (joke of course - but you see my point?)

It can be dull and frustrating, but it's actually a pretty exciting time in football. The Premiership is down to the last day and could be decided by the tightest margin ever. At the other end we still have 2 teams to get relegated - there's a few that could get sucked into it and everyone will be keeping an eye on the other teams' results.

Then there's the FA Cup, to be won by a non "top 4" team for the first time in a long time and of course the first all English Champions League Final (which will admittedly be one of the worst games ever) - it's these sorts of things that make it worth watching. It's even better when it's your team in the mix.

I agree that footballers are overpaid, but so are the majority of professional sportsmen - and American wages for their sports are obscene. But it's anything to do with entertainment - look at how much Johnathan Ross gets, or Chris Moyles, or even the supremely talentless Catherine Tate. For me, their wages seem pretty far fetched. It's even worse if you look at Hollywood.

And I know people have a pretty poor opinion of footballers - and it can be justified. But for every David Beckham, there's a Paul Scholes - quietly getting on with the job, acting in a responsible manner, doing loads for charidee and generally being a good egg. Yes they play act, but the system encourages it. Don't blame them, blame the rule makers who have pretty much stopped football being a contact sport.

And are footballers a bit thick - yep fair enough - but they get pulled out of school before they finish any sort of qualifications, then have to concentrate on one tiny, non scholastic aspect of their lives until they're too slow or broken to play. Then they have to rely on whatever savings they were wise enough to put aside to see them alright. Not everyone can get a job at Match of the Day - more often than not, it's failed businesses, the odd speaking job and a spot on reality TV.

Erm anyway, I like footy - I love my team and I think it's great. Viva los beautiful game! :D

Er, but this happens every year. Why not just reside yourself to the fact that one team will win, one will come close, and two will go down.

Then you can forget the game exists at all and get on with living a life that doesn't involve getting your kicks off watching someone elses.

I don't like football v much either. I love playing it, but the only football i find good is international football. I think i watched pretty much every game of the world cup last time.

One thing i hate is when people try and act upset or go mental when their team win, just to look like they're serious football buffs who are alpha. I don't like people who watch football just because they "feel they have to" because it's the only sport that's regularly on tv and because "everyone" watches it. I was amazed when i went to Italy a few years back and when Ferrari had won a race, their were convoy's of cars with Ferrari flags on them, beeping their horns as they went through the city, and people hanging out of the sunroof waving huge Ferrari flags. I thought this was amazing, as the only sport that is really celebrated like that in England is football and very occasionally, Rugby.

Out of all the sports I've watched football is the best in terms of skill, strength, team work and pacing.

Ever seen something like WRC? WRC has much more excitement than i've seen in a football game in a long time...

Skill- check!
Team work - check!
Pacing- check!

Football seems to overshadow just about anything, George Best wasted his & his doners liver after swearing on oath that he would never drink again in order to jump the transplant queue.' Well yes but he was a good footballer tho.'

I often wonder if Garry Glitter had been a world class premier footballer he would still be living here & a hero, 'well yes but he was a good footballer tho '

Also, i've found people who watch football, generally don't like a lot of other sports and are generally "Footbull iz tha bestest game evar!!1"1112".

Plus most of the players annoy me because most are retarded.

Because that isn't how it happens all the time (and it is three teams to go down), there is no point in resigning yourself to something that might not happen. If football always panned out the same way then you might have a point but it doesn't, sometimes you get the 'minnows' beating the big boys, sometimes you get a team finishing a season undefeated, sometimes ......

As for the second part, do you have absolutely nothing you enjoy watching/listening to that doesn't involve you taking part? I struggle to believe that you don't watch films, listen to music or read books.

The only people who don't like football are those who were bullied at school for not taking part in PE and those who got laughed at in the shower!

Liking Football makes me attractive to Girls & scares weak men who are really Gayers who have yet to find there inner woman.

What a thread full of gayers.:p

Football is awesome. Great fun to watch, and even better to play. What's not to like?

Oh, and the Premier League is the best league in the world.

edit: beaten to the "gayers" comment :(

I'm not into football, I find the game pretty boring. I will watch it when the world cup is on(though mostly just the later stages) and thats about it.

However I wouldn't say I hate it, but I am I'm massively ignorant of it - don't know the 'off side rule' or whatever, probably couldn't name many top players etc... But I'll still have a kick about with my mates on holiday.

Typical conversation with my mates would be something like:

mate: " you coming to the pub to watch the game"

me: "what game"

mate: "the football!"

me: "what is england playing or something?"

mate: "no numptie its the championship league"

me: "so is that like the FA cup or something?".....

I'm basically clueless though now know that the Man U game the other day wasn't part of the FA cup or whatever but was some other league thingie.

Still I actually believe the players do deserve their wages. Its not just kicking a ball round, these people are highly skilled and play a large part in the revenue the club generates why shouldn't they get a decent slice? Clubs are private companies, there is a market for players thus I'd expect the price they are paid to be pretty fair. I mean what do people expect, the clubs pay the players a pittance and let the chairman & shareholders take the lions share in the form of bigger dividends.

you think being in a pub watching football with drunken masses of men being sick over themselves is attractive to the women? ;)

I am another non-fan of football. Cant help but break it down when im watching it, too a bunch of over paid hooligans kicking an inflated ball around, cannot understand the passion.

The thing that really got me was when Arsen Venger, or however you spell his name, said 'We are not in the entertainment business'. Stupid git, takes it so seriously, this trivial crap is his whole life... and all his earnings come from people paying to be entertained, ****** tit.

Football is like music, it is a way of life and gives hope and bring communities together.

Many people get payed silly money at the top level, but thats because football clubs as companys make money! so they use it within their limit to buy players. its like saying ooh bill gates has got far too much, microsoft would be better off paying money into the NHS than their workers.

Im not surprised on a computer forum there are many that hate it lol.

You think sitting in a corner drunkenly slurring something about existentialism is attractive to women?

Wait, no, that is a horrendous generalisation with no basis in fact. Much like yours so if we are going to be silly about it then we might as well do it properly.

I dont hate it, I hate watching it but i enjoy playing it with a few mates when its a sunny day.

I do however hate the fact that its the only agenda ever on topic at work, its like a religeon to some people.

I'd say hate is a pretty strong word - I'm just not interested in it at all, other than maybe Euro/World Cup - difficult not to be patriotic and watch your national team :)

I've no interest in the sport otherwise :)
