Hi All

I have just booked my honeymoon. In total its about £7k  .

I have put £2k on my credit card, but the holiday co charge a 2% surcharge for credit card transactions.

Can I pay the other £5k using debit card, and still be protected by my credit card should anything go wrong ? Or does the whole amount have to be paid off on the same credit card ?

R

Mehul

I *think* the entire transaction needs to be on the credit card I'm afraid. It sucks that the charges are so high. Out of interest where are you going? Maldives? Either way, congrats :D

Is it a Visa Debit card?

Won't travel insurance cover this, and if its a holiday the company is something ABATA (random letters I've just made up) bonded.

Thanks for the congrats

Am going to Maldives->malaysis->Dubai

Not looking forward to the credit card bill when we get back . . . . . ! :p

for tne protection it need to be in full, however many travel agents have a cap on the amount charged so maybe the balance won't have much of a charge applied

7k to go anywhere but the moon is a rip off.

You would have to use your credit card, I would say use it! Much easier if things go wrong.

Even if you've only paid for part of it on a credit card, you're still covered for the full amount if something goes wrong under the consumer credit act, provided the purchase is over £100.

Get your facts straight people!

Anyone who spends less than 7k to go somewhere hasn't lived life! :p

Now you see how the two statements are equally crazy :)

Yeah I guess so, although £7k seems a lot, unless he's going for a few months, or first class, especially for two people.

Although where would the balance come from?

he spends £2k on the card, and £5k out of his pocket, then the CC company has to give you £7k back?

Yep, hence why banks don't give merchant accounts out to anybody!

Its only 2 weeks - 13 nights.

Its surprising how much resorts in the maldives cost, and also how quickly air fares etc add up. Also we are going to two places in malaysia. In addition we have picked the best resorts that we could - sort of a once in a lifetime holiday.

But, you're right - £7k is a hell of a lot of money.

You would be lucky to get two return tickets to Malaysia in First class for 7K.

True, you can do most holidays on very little. But if you want nice hotels and stuff, 7K for 13 nights and including flights, is not that insane. The Maldives is also very pricey, but that can be a good thing. Keeps all the rif raf away.

Seriously though a £1400 on flights, £1500 on accomodation in Maldives for a week, quick check on tripadvisor states Kurumba is the best.

Malaysia is very cheap, but let's say we budget a grand there for 5 days (that's £200 a night!!) and the last 2 days in the best hotel on tripadvisor in dubai for say, £500

That totals up to £4.4k!

Dear god, I ought to become a travel agent with that kind of profit for 15 minutes work.

That's also assuming they are travelling in the middle of July, peak period.

To be fair anywhere exceptional in the maldives you are looking at around 2500 for all inclusive at least.

Not everyone travels to fleapits on some greek island and lives on fry ups :P
