Hit & Run - Can You ID The Car From This Piece Of Plastic?

Are the police not interested in a hit and run?

I was assualted by a big guy who blocked me at traffic lights. I'd just pulled up behind him and hadn't even been following or anything. He punched through my drivers side window and made a mess of my eye socket.

The particular junction had a camera on it plus there were cameras at the nearby bus station etc. At least 3/4 I could see and count with a good agnle on there I was. Police did absolutely nothing about it, they said the cameras are not always on. Fat lot of use they are. The only conselation is I had a hot uniformed police woman interview me and make me go "ouchie" when she had a poke at my sore bits.

Why do you need to ID the car? Will the police look up the car and colour based on your local area or are you going to look for it yourself?

You'd like to think so, but other than the initial statement taken 8 days ago I've had no contact from them, I guess with no witnesses and no reg it's not going to be solvable without some legwork which will probably not do anything for their statistics.

I'm hoping if (with some help) I can ID the car make and model they might be happier to get involved. I've contacted the local paper and they're going to run a story and ask for witnesses or friends / neighbours who can ID the car / person.

I've got nothing to gain as I'm insured fully comp, and legal expenses are putting a claim for injuries and 3rd party damages through the MIB. I just don't think people should be able to get away with this sort of thing, I could have had a heart attack or stroke caused by the stress / injuries after he'd left and died on the scene, or it could have been a kid on their pushbike with no protective gear on ..............

Accord Coupe?

Just heard back from Honda - "Technical have confirmed that you are correct in thinking it is an early Integra, they were around between 1986 & 88".

Now to see if the police will take it up.

Thanks for all your help, advice & efforts.

Glad you are ok, and well played for getting the model, but i'm not sure the police can do a lot about it?

I think the big issue is that the Police don't seem to be prepared to do anything that might involve some.. *SHOCK! HORROR!* investigation or legwork.

Unless it's an easy nick they're just not interested. Or at least that's the way it seems to me - to OP, my sister has the same issue with a hit and run although no one was injured. Cops just don't want to know, even with a full description...

Glad you are on the mend and well done on finding the make and model. There cant be too many 86-88 integra's around your area. Just hope its not someone from outside the area.

good luck

I'm sure they can search their much lauded computer systems for the make, model and registered keeper within a certain radius of where the accident occurred, it's not exactly the most common car in the world.

Are you allowed to ask Honda or perhaps via the police, whether there had been any recent Integra's from that era in the local Honda dealerships to replace the plastic/unit?

Hope you find out who did it.

The Honda could still be parked in the drive/on the street with the broken light...

I along with everyone else I think knows that may well be the scenario.

He may have used an indy, he might have done it himself or done nothing as you say. Who knows?

Doesn't hurt to try the Honda dealership does it, seen as though Honda have been helpful thus far.

Jeez, just trying to help out :/

This thread made me think of that biker who was setting off speed cameras with the two finger salute and I think, a covered up plate.

The police quickly identified the make of bike (a BMW I think), how many were in the area, who owned them, and eventually caught and arrested him. So it's obvious that if they really want to put some work in, the cops can actually track down and nick people. Only seems to be if they were speeding though - leaving people to bleed to death in the road is obviously a minor offence

Sorry, I wasn't trying to have a dig, it may have came across the wrong way. :/

Basically I was trying to say if I was local and I saw a Honda parked up with a busted light, it might be worth taking down the Reg. No. at least. :)
