Hit & Run - Can You ID The Car From This Piece Of Plastic?

As far as I'm aware the collisons unit is made up of civilian staff that do the admin and police staff that investigate the accidents, next time I call I'll ask to speak with an investigator, I dare say I'll get brushed off but if I do I'll take up Chabsy's advice and contact my local counciler. It took 10 days for my statement to be entered onto the collision units books with me chasing them, even now 14 days later it doesn't look like my case has been allocated to an investigator. Thats 2 clear weeks for the scumbag to hide the evidence and concoct an alliby.

with all due respect, what exactly do you expect them to do ?

all they can do really, is just put a flag against that numberplate on the ANPR system so if it drives by a traffic cop it will flag it up.

I know, the police did pretty much what i expected they would do. I was hoping that as i had the company name as well they might be able to get in touch directly and track the truck down. The fact that i did more to investigate the incident than they did is pretty disappointing though

unfortunately, normal plod dont carry round ANPR,

Considering the OP doesn't have the number plate, ANPR wouldn't be much use ;) But, there's precedent for finding a driver based on a vehicle ID, remember the story a while back of the biker who was tracked down for persistantly running through a speed camera? They had no plate, just the make and model of the bike, but they still found it worthwhile to track him down and do him for speeding. In this case you've got a hit-and-run with injury caused and no less info to go on (probably more, since the bike in that case was a common model, and had no unique identifying features, whereas this is an old car hopefully with a broken indicator and some bike paint on it (and is it not possible to take paint samples from the bike? Or have I been watching too much CSI?)

Totally agree that it might not be worth the investment of time and resources, given that it's probably fairly unlikely that they could secure a conviction, but if it's worth doing for speeding surely it's worth doing for this?

They did have a big fat photo of the guy with his middle finger up and numbers in the topright hand corner which were considerable higher than they should have been. Proof is the problem.

They did, yep, but only a very partial face shot... Maybe not the best example though to be fair :D I think most people said the same as me at *** time, 1) what a shocking waste of police time, 2) OK, we think he did it but they've not really proved it but 3) What an utter ****, he deserves whatever he gets ::p

Is it also that they get money for all the speeding he'd been doing? Whereas who gets money if this guy is caught? I forget where all the speeding money goes though, Bolivia?

The Collisions Unit wtrote to me to say that they wont be investigating the incident further as there are too many cars that match the description. I phoned them to ask what they were talking about and was told that if I wasnt happy with the decision that I should put it in writing, am just off to post the letter.

Jesus Christ, I think if I'm ever the victim of a hit and run the only option would be to say something like, I thought I saw a blonde 4 year old girl in the back seat as the driver got back in his car shouting "Allah hu akbar!"

Agreed Firestar. Tell t hem the car was speeding in a 30 zone, and driven by a wealthy monkey, who was eating a banana behind the wheel.

Awful story :(

Absolutely disgusting - makes you wonder what these jokers do all day!

Must be too busy eating donuts or sat behind a speed gun on the hard shoulder!

"Police are investigating an alleged Exeter hit-and-run" - Yeah right!

I know the bridge well as I go over it every day to work since Heavitree road has been closed. Eyes peeled for a blue Honda Integra now :)
