wondered is anyone knew how i can lock the touch pad on the vostro, i am trying to write and essay and keep on touching it by mistake and it is becoming very annoying

Temporarily disable it in the device manager?

Just make sure if you do disable it in device manager, that you can enable it again without use of the touchpad, like external mouse, or using arrow keys and enter to re enable if possible.

I do this sometimes on laptops, never happens on mine because I disable the tap to click functionality, find that in your options as it doesn't really matter where you're pointing it as long as you don't tap :)

Mine's got a little "dell touchpad" icon in the bottom right corner (by the clock and stuff), click that and "disable touchpad" is under device select in the menu. Can also tick a box to disable the touchpad only when you connect an external mouse to it.

There'll be something in the device manager. If there's nothing there, then if it's a synaptics pointing device install the drivers and software, and then disable it through there.

I had to do that for mine and attach a mouse, I can't type with it enabled, and I can't use it fast/fluent enough for it to be helpful.
