Race Driver Grid Demo available (Xbox360)

But why is everyone so against Arcade racing??

If you wanted a realistic SIM racer you have plenty of other choices IE GT5 and Forza, it seems pointless having another one saturating the market. This is trying to be a bit different with simple pick up and play arcade high speed thrills.. no fuss.

Which is my book it does very well.. If you want it a bit more realism grip and handling put Pro mode on, but otherwise just enjoy the it for what it is :D

I think for me, it's because knowing that Codies were behind TOCA etc you'd think that after Dirt being quite a departure from previous McRae games they'd be back on form and more sim-like with this one. But I guess they're now taking their racing games into a different direction.

Great fun racing as long as you aren't expecting anything to be anywhere NEAR life like. Drifting was a right pain in the backside as I could only get 200,000 while the opponent had 600,000 on NORMAL.

Things get a tad better with the driving aids off but not by much.

I'll be getting it but only because it's a laugh if you wanna pick up and play with a few friends.

Well true.. But DiRT Sold over 1.7 millions copies so a lot of people liked what it did, especially in America and it obviously had an effect on the direction they took the game play. They have slowly pulled away from the realism since start of the race-driver series.. This isn't TOCA touring car.. and is unlikely to ever be like that was again.

I was really looking forward to this and have spent the last hour trying my best to like it, I was almost sold once or twice by the replays alone, it looks great, arcade handling is one thing but this feels like you're driving a very loud rubber dingy. The views aren't great either, I think all racing games should have a windscreen height view without a bonnet.

Maybe it's just me but some bends you don't need to brake for at all whilst others require you to slam on the brakes which have way to much effect.

The AI feels like idiot online drivers that can only win by ramming you off the road from behind.

It did call me John though, which was cool!

played it online and once accept it for what it is quite good fun
the damage model is fairly good worrying that there is no pits online to repair it though which is a shame and will mean no damage i guess mostly online shame it does not show cosmetic damage at least when it is turned off

Very similar or Dirt. As mentioned above, some corners you can take without letting off the accelerator, and others you need to brake very hard, even though the corners are similar.

Dirfting is cool, but not that hard after you do it a few laps. Better with manual gears and no help.

Are you sure Pro mode affects handling? I've just had another go with it on and it didn't seem to make the slightest bit of difference. Only thing the options menu says it affects is the ability to restart races.

I still think this sits uncomfortably between arcade and sim. It's obviously nothing like real racing, but then why would they give you options such as ATC, ASM etc. in an arcade game? I wouldn't mind the handling so much if the cars just had a bit of feeling or weight to them, but it's like driving a cardboard box.

Gutted this isn't as good as I thought it would be, I was all ready to put a pre-order in too :(

Very slick looking game, very smooth, I was very impressed with the solid framerate, well done CM..

But, as everyone is saying, the Handling is absolutely dire, it's the worst I've ever experienced... this has to be changed..

It really is 110% arcade, every driving game over the last few years has been somewhere between simulation and arcade to various degrees, as it should be, this makes Sega Rally look like a simulation!..

This is limiting it's market massively IMO, I was hoping it would be a more complete 'flat out' style game, but it's a just not remotely close..

Heres my thoughts.

Although this is a demo based opinion.

The drifting from what i've played of it so far will take some getting used to, certainly can feel the oversteer and understeer of the car infact best drift racing i've ever seen in any video game so far and is close to as realistic as you could possibly get.

Make sure all driving aids are turned off and set to the hardest difficulty if you want this game to be realistic.

The sound and graphics are blindingly amazing.

This is where it starts to go down hill.

From what i've played of the European Touring Car Championships/American Muscle Car Cup although it's not fully offical leaving out certain car manufactures and branding which isn't a bad thing, the cars feel more or less like your driving on sheet ice, bearing in mind this is with everything set in max difficulty. If you cast your minds back to Colin McRae: DiRT driving on tarmac should point you in the right direction, there is no feel of grip and force.

Although I hear a lot of you say this is a demo, unfortunatly most of the games that have had demos released often remain the same ingame as the demo.

With only two weeks before it's offical launch I cannot see this getting fixed maybe over Xbox Live with a patch it may.

Can see a lot of downloadable content heading it's way though with only 50 cars and a hand full of tracks.

Let's wait and see.

it just crashed my ps3 lol

same i got to first turn then it just locked hard had to turn off at the mains

tryed it again and meh i hate it maybe because i play rfactor and like semi realism but these things are terrible the speed is like 2x normal brakes are like hitting a brick wall handling feels like ridge racer on speed
this game is not for me anyway....
