Hello Guys,

I'm trying to remove the gear knob on my BMW E46 but am having some problems removing it, does anyone have any experience as to how this is meant to come apart?

I need to fit a new Gaiter as my old one has some holes in it!

Thanks,

Michael

Aye, just pull. First one I took off on an e36 whilst in a scrappie saw me stood in the car, bracing my back against the sunroof.

aye pull
the one in our e39 worked itself loose, i used to pull it off all the time :o
it was actually suprisingly heavy

It is a pain to get off :p I changed mine for a black one. Are you doing the handbrake too? Did both of mine and really makes a difference :)

:p

Bit of a bump but anyone know how to remove the handbrake gaiter? I'm replacing the gearbox and handbrake gaiters, already done the gearbox one but can't figure a way around the handbrake one.

Before anyone says it, no I haven't replaced it with ass ones, I've replaced it with new black Italian leather ones, looks exactly like the original, just smells of sweet Italian leather and feels so soft ^_^
Edit*
Never mind, sorted it!

Same as the gear knob IIRC, just pull bloody hard.

I was trying to look it up on TIS, but it seems impossible to find.

I was wondering WTF the cable tie the set came with was for, all quickly became clear :p

Must be a BMW thing as it's the same in the E60.

I had to replace mine because the clips that hold it in had broken.

It's a bit disconcerting when you're going for a quick change and the gear knob literally comes off in your hand.

My knob required quite a bit of pulling to get off.

So did my gear knob :0)
