¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I've seen these on offer recently as a local shop, and they look ok... Can anyone tell me if they sound any good and also what the build quality is like? I was just going to use them for music while at my computer - my amp isn't amazingly powerful (2x20W) but it's been fine with other speakers...

I know next to nothing about hifi gear (i'm more of a PA type person :D), but I plan to use these with a sub as I know bass from bookshelfs is normally pretty lacking. Are they speakers that look pretty and sound horrible, or is the sound quality good with these?

They are ace little speakers. I have 2 sets and my old man has a set too.

I use them for rears on surround sound. They are a lot heavy then you think.

Musically, they arnt the best tbh. they really need a sub to go with them.

But for £49 they are a BARGAIN!

You've seen the same offer as me. ;)

I already have a sub so I won't be wanting any bass from these. I may pick up a pair when I'm in town tomorrow...

Well I went for a pair in the end, they are pretty damn small! Should be perfect as my computer desk is cluttered enough as it is. They seem to be quite nicely made, but bad for £50 that's for sure... I was a little tempted to get the JBL control 1's for an extra tenner tho!

I'm just making up some cables and I should be able to try them out.

Care to say where you found these speakers that this cracking price?

I want to get a pair of these for my home cinema but they're around £80-£100 everywhere I've seen!

If I can find them for this price I'll buy them now :D

nikebee @ gmail.com

or

nik @ goscarrock.com if you can't say here :)

Ah I believe I've found out where.

I'm a member but it seems I didn't get the special offer email for some reason!

Sorted :)

Hi, I bought them at Richer Sounds, I don't think this isn't a competitor, but if it is, tell me now and I'll edit my post! I signed up to their e-mail newsletter, called the "vip club" and they send you offers thru e-mail. I printed off the e-mail, took it in the shop, and they gave me the deal. Even the guy who served me was surprised they were that cheap, but I think Richer Sounds own Mordaunt-Short so that explains the rock bottom price. I'll e-mail you a link in a min, but you may want to go to their site and sign up anyway, it's free. ;)
How do they sound? What amp are you using?:)
My amp is a DIY jobbie, it's to the right of the can of tuna with all the wires going into it. :D

It's similar Sonic Impact T amp as it uses the same Tripath chip. It should sound nicer tho as it's got a better PSU and less input filtering. It only does 2 x 20W but this is plenty when I'm so close to the speakers.

The sound of the speaker seems detailed and smooth to my ears. Clean another word that comes to mind, and very bright also but this is probably because I don't have a crossover for my sub yet, so I'm running these full range and there isn't much bass. This is to be expected from small cabinets like these with 3" mid/bass drivers.

Once I have my crossover soldered up these will only be getting audio above 100Hz which is what they were intended for, plus I'll have some low end which is a must for me. :)

EDIT: nikebee, what are your plans for these?

nice one mike, guess what i also have the control 1s lol.

They are much better for what i use them for, they are on my booth output on my mixer.
I much prefer *** JBLs for music especially as monitors when mixing :)

Thanks for the links guys, as I said I'd signed up to their VIP stuff but didn't get the email! Weird!

My original plans were to run these on a 2.1 setup with a sub and a Yamaha DSPAX761, eventually migrating them to possibly being rears on a 5.1 setup.

Would these suffice for a 2.1 setup for now?

Is it the amp6 basic from 41Hz? I remember you mentioning it somewhere. Is that a decent hole-mount model for this kind of setup?

Oh, and is there something special about that can of tuna?:p

What I'm using is very similar (but not the same) as to my 41Hz Amp6 basic. The Amp6 Basic kicks out a little extra power (25W instead of 20W) per chan so would work even better. I would use my Amp6 for these but I'm using it already in a battery powered boombox type thing...

It's a very easy to make amp and well suited to these. Check out the amp9 basic also if you want some more power output.

The tuna is just a normal can of tuna, it just weighs down my volume control (amps blue pot I think) which I mounted in an empty tuna can. :D
