People who have been on Roaccutane / on it.

I don't get why you need to moisturise, the whole point of it is to dry your skin up. Side effects are minimal, remember the reason you are taking it!

Oh and before it gets better, it gets WORSE

Well if I didn't have to work infront of a lot of customers I wouldn't bother.

When I'm at home I don't really care, but if I had to go out somewhere for a meal, or to go to work... I'd rather not get stared at because my face looked like it was peeling.

Varies from person to person, but it's likely it will be the whole skin.

Think on a 1 year course you can expect to shed the whole of you face skin several times.

oh god:eek:

Is it just your face that peels? and are we talking like snake shedding skin here?

Just imagine having your Johnson shed its skin :(

Old thread is old but how easy is it to get onto Roaccutane in the Uk?

I've been on oxytetracycline since I was 15 (im 21 now) and while it works I still get spots every week. Im not bothered so much by the spots, but the state it leaves my skin in. It used to be smooth and one colour, now its kinda pale, a little blotchy and rough.

:(

Thing is the doctor would probably not let me have accutane because the oxytetracycline kind of works. :/ I don't see the point in continuing my current medication if it isnt curing me though.

Yeah, they do that. But just be firm in your resolve that you don't feel the current medicine is working.

Can he give me it if i ask? Or does he have to refer me for tests and to other people?

ps how long does marajuana stay in the blood for. kind of tried it at uni lol

pss i should have used the last 6 years in switching drugs rather than staying on one mediocre one :/ if i complain now hes likely to just stick me on one of the hundreds of other topica/antibiotics. bah.

I had to get referred to a dermatologist by my GP to be put on it. I said it was affecting my lifestyle by putting me in a down mood all the time and that seemed to be what got the ball rolling. I had tried every antibiotic under the sun, and zineryt (horrible stuff, dried my skin up without helping the acne).

They only do a Liver function test on your blood so I doubt they would bother testing for other things.

They wont test you for weed.

Just go speak to your doctor, he'll then refer you to a dermatologist. (Was gnna be a 2 month wait but I got a cancellation, so had to wait a week).
The same day I saw the dermotologist, I started taking Roaccutane.

Week and a half in, and my skin is dry dry dry... Looks pretty bad too. All to be expected though. Only another 14 and a half weeks left. (Possibly 22 and a half)

Cool, sounds worth it then. At 23 I'm getting a bit fed up!

Do it mate! Expensive but well worth it i think. Treatment should sort ya for life regarding acne, may have to do small cycles of weaker antibiotics after but nothing to worry about.

Cool. I'm gonna go to the doctors and ask about it. Might ask about my joints too lol. They click repeatedly :(

Lul I sound like such a hypochondriac.

Was on it for 6 months a few years ago. The only sides effects I noticed were unbelievably dry skin (which is pretty much a guaranteed effect) and thinning hair.

Stock up on moisturiser is all I can say.

Well time has gone quick!

Tablets are working well :)

Half way through my treatment now I guess.

Side effects were no way near as bad as I'd expected. Dry skin for the first couple weeks, and also v.bad skin. From week 3 onwards I just had dry lips and dry skin, although moisturiser helped out a lot. Skin hasnt stopped improving from week 3 onwards really, I'm just about to start week my 8th week and there's been a fair bit of improvement.

Blood tests on the 8th of July and getting my new prescription.

To anyone who is thinking about it and has exhausted all other antibiotics, go see your doc and speak to them about it! Don't delay it!!!
