I have been in the same situation years ago in Liverpool with gambling. Borrowed from the wrong people, not paid it back, asked my mum to bail me out, she said no, I got a pasting.

I never did it again.

In that case, get him in rehab if its a bad drug addiction. Will also prolong the kicking he may get while he sorts his head out.

To be honest I think it's more trying to flog it off while getting some for himself and it all going wrong, but still, I find it abhorrent.

Have told him I will lend a portion towards it. He has to sort the rest. If he doesn't pay it back, he gets a kicking and I disown him.

Seems fair to me.
