anyone moved from 3580 512 to 3870 512 and noticed a substantial improvement on the latest games?

thinking of making the switch as 3870 seems quite cheap now

The topic title infers that it's about the 3850 being better than the 3870. :p

I doubt you'd see a very substantial difference, you're probably better off just clocking the nuts off the thing if you want more power.

might want to try 3870 X2 or another 3850 in crossfire :p

Assuming we're refering to the spec in sig, the motherboard says SLi, so guessing you can only go down the nvidia route for dual graphics cards. Personally I think its worth waiting for ati/nvidias next offerings, I'm waiting around with a 3870xt til then....

If you overclock the 3850 there are no difference that I could see from a 3870.

The extra memory bandwidth really does nothing as long as you oc your 3850 memory to 1ghz or higher. Also I base this on experience, I had a 3870 as well as a 3850, and ran them both individually and together. Ended up selling the 3870 as CF was just more power than I actually needed and I could get more money for the 3870 compared to the 3850. Also, like I said, there's no performance difference going from DDR3 to DDR4.

I average around 60-70fps in CoD4 1680x1050 2xAA max details, the 3850 is still a really great card.

no such thing as a 3870xt as ATi no longer use letters in the graphics card name, just the numbers

i would wait until the new cards come out as there bound to push the current cards down in price until they go EOL

Not a great deal faster especially if the 3850 is overclocked. 3870X2 is a better upgrade, but if you can sell the 3850 for a good price on the bay why not.
