Slight lie in title, but still a disgrace none the less.

What is this incompetent government doing. Not only have they increases taxes to there highest point in decades under the pretence of being "green". They have now slashed green grants for installing solar panels and other such devices by two thirds

I can't wait for the elections and get this Buffoon out of here. Even better has the queen still got the power to chuck the government out.

Cash cuts see green grants halved
The number of government grants made to people who want to fit solar panels or other green energy systems to their homes has halved, the BBC has learned.

It comes after the low carbon buildings programme cut the maximum grant on offer from £7,500 to £2,500.

The Renewable Energy Association, which says the programme is failing, has accused ministers of complacency.

But the government says uptake went up considerably last month after the need for planning permission was removed.

That's completely stupid. I'm trying hard to understand the logic behind cutting these grants, how the hell is that going to encourage greener lifestyles?

I also can't understand why it's not compulsory for all new houses to be fitted with a solar heating system. It would be so easy, and they're incredibly simple and easy to fit.

Why would the government want you to fit solar or wind power/heating though? as with these they can't levy any taxes from them where as with gas and main electric they can.
So they don't have tp spend money importing fuels and thus exporting cash. Which isn't good for the economy.

I would speculate the grants were never intended to encourage a greener lifestyle but simply appease the greens and make it appear they had such policies.

With these initiatives becoming more popular the government is finding it has no budget to fund them and is cutting grants/capping applications instead.

Ive always held the belive that punishing people will not stop them doing something, it will just make them angry, whereas rewarding someone for not doing something works. Basically, higher tax wont stop most people from buying a half decent car, they will just moan, yet if they turned round and said all cars below 2 litre were free tax, people would be more inclined.

And yes, they werent about green policies, they were all about image. Completely shocking.

I agree. These so called green taxes are a complete con. We need houses that run on solar/wind power, and cars that run on water. Like to see them tax that! Can't wait to vote Labour out.

Why should the government give people money to fit "green devices" in the first place?

If all these stupid schemes were cut and the government just did what it needs to (ie just run the country and leave the people to run their own lives) then we wouldn't have such high taxation in the first place.

If people want to be green, then they should pay for it themselves.

But back in the real world.. with the government screwing us over so much with all this green tax rubbish then yes it does suck that they are giving less of it back.

Green Taxes are a complete con in my cynical mind, just a way to get money out of people that are using there car (petrol) and other unfriendly things less.

Arent green friendly? get stung on Petrol/Other Fuel/Energy tax.
You are green friendly? get stung by Green tax.

Gordon Brown likes money out of every pocket he can get at.

I saw a Guardian article and it mentioned how the grants were cut due to the high number of people taking them.

Following the cut the number of people installing Solar fell and only 350 or so households in the uk had done so in the last year. By comparison, during the same period in Germany over 100,000( 113,000 I think) had installed Solar.
