Cookers - Gas or Electric?

Y
Gas is also more controllable (ignoring induction as I have never used it) Hot paltes take ages to cool down. Halogen although better still takes a while to cool down, you still have a lump of glass that heats up. Gas you turn the knob and that it the heat disperses.

So do gas rings.
I'll guarantee that if you put your hand on a gas ring after you've turned it off it will burn your hands.
Look at the results on the spreadsheet I linked to - all the temps at the bottom.
We used to cook food but we found no difference between cooking & food and boiling water with our end results.

Fan assisted electric oven gives a more even and thorough cook which is why you often have to reduce cooking times.

Dual fuel (gas hob/elec oven) is by far the most popular choice because of this and as a result, its very rare to find manufacturers producing gas ovens these days.

Also, if you have a power outage, you can still have hot food and likewise if you have a gas problem
This man speaketh the total truth.

I can't imagine there's any street without gas (apart from isolated houses), it's just people haven't paid to get it connected.

Hahahahahahahaha, you are having a laugh right!? There are thousands of towns and villages with no mains gas!

im in love with my neff induction hob, touch screen interface, cool at all time surface, so so easy to clean. i enjoyed cooking with the wok on gas but actually its quite good on an induction hob.

i hate cleaning gas hobs!

only problem is my nice frying pan is the wrong metal and wont work on it.

Don't you come in here pretending to be from Leicestershire, and casting aspirtions on our towns and villages!!!

You're still one of those strange Welsh folk deep down!

;):p

I hated our electric hob at uni, it was truly awful, proper old 70's thing with the coiled element that heats up, no protection over it or anything. Set many a fire alarm off with that bad boy. Oven door wasnt even sealed properly and fell off its hinges all the time so cooking anything was a major chips, 2 hours for chips anyone?

Fan assisted oven + gas hob.

Where I am currently living has solid plate electric hob's.. Awful!
burnt food or cold food, those are your only options!

..The only thing you can cook on it are things that only take a couple of mins of high heat... like steak..
so i guess not all bad! But still, you get my point.

Well if I want to whack a pizza in the oven i'm going to use the one that takes 5 minutes to heat up, not half an hour.
Never had a problem with uneven cooking in mine.

Okay, there are thousands of WELSH and Scottish towns and villages without mains gas.

Leicestershire is comparatively riddled with the stuff

Better? :D
