I generally store all my files and games onto the D: and keeping my C: for just the OS.

Just did a image install and loading up steam. That updated itself:( and when i double click on the games (not installed) it starts downloading itself.:(

Do i have to do this when ever i install my image?

Sorry to thread hijack, but rather than start a new thread, how do I uninstall games on steam? I only play TF2 so was gonna uninstall portal and maybe keep HL2 as well.

Open Steam, right click on what you want rid of, and click Delete Local Content, badabing :).

I am similar to you, I store all my progs on D: and keep the c: for os. I recently went dual boot, with a new os on E: and the original on c:

IIRC, I didn't have to download the games again but I did reinstall Steam client onto D: (previously on c:) and copied the directory the games were in (on c:) to the new directory on d: and all was fine. - Though I did lose some of my save games.

steam works standalone

no need to install it, just install it once, then you can pretty much copy the folder somewhere else, and just run the steam.exe

steam doesnt have any kind of registry settings, or atleast, none that are important.

if the files are still in the steamapps directory, they shouldnt be downloading.
