ST170, Leon Cupra or Leon Cupra R?

:p

I was considering the LCR, but there were none under 8.5 grand last year when I was looking to buy. They've since tumbled, so now make a brilliant buy IMO.

/edit:

What power is your LCR putting out?

260/265 horses or therabouts

live remap
panel filter
forge recirc valve

soon to be followed bt some more goodies :)

blueflame exhaust(inc replacement cat)
decent CAI kit

and for xmas ;) hybrid turbo :)

Certainly no slouch then! My CTR is standard. I'd like a new exhaust, just not sure I could live with the extra noise (loud enough as it is)!

tbh if i had the money i'd have a ctr on the drive too,

just felt so involving to drive, a real drivers car :)

that said i keep looking on ebay for a cheap cat c/d ctr for track day and back road fun :)

OP an unbiased opinion on the ST170 handling which needs more power :)

Thanks for the review. I have heard the earlier ST170's had issues with the power being nowhere near 170bhp out of the factory. If I was buying an ST170, i'd be looking to pay £5k max to be honest. I'll go higher for something special :)

Fuel economy is important to me. I have a 40 mile drive to the station each day where I then have the pleasure of paying £3k to get me into London by train! I really couldn't live with a 25mpg car, it just would not be worth it.

mondeo tbh :)

octavia vrs derv? or even a nice 130 bhp l&k model with a remap :) see's you with a very nice place to be for well under your budget

I don't think I need a diesel, just something that isn't ridiculously low MPG wise. 30'ish average isn't too bad really.

lcr will be fine, a "sensible" driver will see 35 mpg happily.

I never understand how people can get 35mpg out of cars like this. I've just filled up the Golf today (1.8T) and my trip computer showed an average of 13.4mpg since the last fillup.

I once did get 35mpg coming back from my girlfriends and that was a steady 55-60mph. Man what a boring journey that was.

If you want 35mpg, buy something economical. Don't buy a performance car and drive it like a granny. Just accept that you're gonna use a fair bit of petrol and get on and enjoy it.

If you're looking at the Seat Cupra R, then definitely consider the Focus RS/182 or a CTR. I'd go for the Focus RS!

Alternatively, a 172 (4-5K) which is decent on fuel. :)

An FRS or 225 for under £7K?

No chance!

/edit:

I take that back. It seems you can just about pick up a 225 for £7k. Never an FRS though, not a good one at least.

He said he'd have to push his budget by 2k to get a LCR - to get a Focus RS would mean he'd have to double his original budget - something i doubt he's considering.

OP, this idea maybe a bit hit or miss, but have you looked at something like an Accord Type R? They're around 5k and are meant to be bloody good.
