My Asus P5K-E seems to falter at the start of every PC switch on, I read somewhere else re this but can't remember where. I press the button & the fans & GPU start up etc for 2 seconds & then it goes dead for 2 seconds & then it restarts & loads as normal.
Is there a fix as I guess it must stress the components .
Is this a bios issue? I have 0906.
It also sometimes loads up to windows but the hardrive & one DVD drive keep their lights permanently on as tho constantly active, another bug?

I have the wifi version and I have exactly the same. It wont do it though if I leave the mains plugged in (for an unknown duration) for a bit before I switch it on. I heard somewhere that it is to do with checking the stability of the current supplied to the graphics card, but there was no evidence to back it up and I cant quite reason that in my head.

[edit] not sure about the dvd light staying on I'm afraid, you havn't flashed the firmware at all?

I 'll try turning on the power a few minutes before I turn on the machine as I always flick the wall switch & pc straight after & see if it makes a difference, I've not flashed the firmware, I notice that doing a restart sometimes appears to turn off the PC as per a cold boot.

yep, restarting often does that for me. I think it's a bios problem (did a quick oogle and found others with similar problems), what bios version are you running izzy? (I didn't find a bios to fix the problem anyways, but it may help out with the other issues your having)

The board will ALWAYS do that after the PSU has been disconnected from the mains. It's normal and don't worry about it.

The board will boot fine if the power has not been disconnected.

I am running bios version 0906, the one the board came with new last month.

I tried turning on the power several minutes before I turn on the PC but it made no difference

I leave my system switched off, but the PC is still connected to the plug socket which is swiched on.

If I leave it like this the PC POSTS and boots fine every time.

If I switch the power of at the plug then I get the symptoms you are experiencing, as it's just what the board does.

Not sure if i'm right but i've read that it's just changing the bootstrap when it does the OP mentioned. Just leave it plugged in. Mine only does it if i unplug it from the mains etc.

What he said.

Its part of the crash free bios on the P5K-e.

On power being removed the bios is sort of reset from what I can understand and it boots up and restores settings. Something like that :p
Either way its meant to do it :)
