Right I bought a pre-built system because I couldn't be bothered this time around to do it myself and all is good apart from the awful graphics card within it.

It came with an 8600GS which has:

So I'm looking at either a

8800GT

Or

HD 3870

By stats the ATI beats the nVidia but anyone any recommendations?
Would I notice a big difference playing at 1680*1050?

Welcome to the forums :)

The 8800 GT is actually the best card at the moment for the money, so probably is what you should go for.

If you can stretch a little and get the 8800 GTS that is on this week only, that would be even better though.

In a month or 2 the new ATI cards should be out - but since you only have an 8600 GS, you probably are pretty desperate to upgrade.

Ty and yeah its pretty awful so scrap the ATI idea then?

I was looking at a new PSU n case anyhow as pre built ones dont like anything special.

What type of PSU should I be looking at? I've seen the Antec case with the 500W PSU but I was looking for something with a bit more shine to it

8800gs which i have is a good card @1280x1024 plays games on high at that res, but you want something like a 8800gt or as easyrider suggested the 8800gts.All depends on your budget. 8800gs -£70 8800gt - £110 8800gts - 138
