What does it mean if a car was used as a fleet car?

Looking at an MG on the bar of E and it is a 52 plate with FSH but has 137k on the clock.

The guy seems genuine, he says this in the description for the interior

There are a few stone chips on bonnet that could easily be touched up.

Interior is half leather with a few minor scuffs on driver’s seat from wear & tear. Apart from that the interior is immaculate.

Now it wouldn't take much to get the seat retrimmed if it's bad enough, or otherwise some good leather treatment would have it coming up well.

I've emailed asking for pictures, but basically I want to know what is the definition of a "Fleet car" - as the description states this used to be one.

Many Thanks :)

It was a company lease car from new.

Usually tend to be high mileage - they cover big miles from new and are sold on at auction at 3 years old.

Basically it was a company car (I think).

My Dad's P reg Rover 820 was a fleet car (AFAIK). It has full service history with absolutely no expense spared.

It's on something like 299,500 miles.

Ah cool, thanks :)

Would you be put off buying a car if it was a fleet car?

as said it has FSH and I've asked for pictures of the interior and if the cambelts have been done as well.

It was part of a fleet. These could be company cars, hire cars, whatever. Basically it's been driven mostly by people who don't own it and probably haven't cared for it. On the plus side it's probably been serviced properly.

Having had a quick look, I'm assuming that this is the car you're talking about, and it says in the description:

It has a minor dink on drivers side rear wing and a crease in the bumper. This was from reversing onto a post, the body has been repaired but couldn’t afford a new bumper.

Would you want to buy a car from somebody like that? :\ I know I wouldn't!

Not neccesarily but remember its not been a fleet car for 2.5 years so you need to make sure its been looked after since.

Most fleet cars are simply peoples company cars. Thing about the ZS though is its rather fragile and probably not as a resilient to higher mileage than the stuff thats built for it.

Cheers dude :)

I'll ring him tonight to ensure it's definately been service properly and ontime since it wasn't a fleet car. Providing expense hasn't been spared on the mechanical side of things, I'll be happy.

Body work and touchup stuff I can get done fairly cheaply anyway :)

The advert is absolutely rubbish, why do people not put effort in when selling cars?

The only thing I can see rubbish about it is the fact it only has 1 picture. Apart from that, looks alright to me

but then again, you have looked at FAR more adverts than I have :p

No pictures, poor description, openly states he cant afford to run the car, just doesnt sit right with me.

Hmm...I'll have a chat with him tonight anyway. See what he's like...

If I get a spare day I'll go and take a look at it. Not exactly..."down the road"...

On another note, do you really mind living with an interior that looks like this?

To be honest, I'd struggle to think of many cars with a worse interior :\

It's so... out of date, and just generally yuck! I'd be worried I was going to snap off bits of plastic during use.

Clearly you haven't been in many French cars...

To be fair to the French, their interiors may well be made of cheap scratchy plastic, but at least they are styled. That rover dash is just horrid and suitably early 90's. This wouldn't be so bad, but the car is (supposed to be) from the mid 00's.

Exactly, it just looks awful.

From a 1995 car, and... spot the difference?!
