I read in the Metro paper this morning that the new film has had terrible reviews by the preview audience. I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark when it was on last Sunday, haven't seen it for quite some time and it still totally holds it's own with the truck scene still one of my favourite of any film ever. So I gave Temple of Doom a look this Sunday and oh dear...I'd forgotten just how bad it was. Last Crusade I can remember pretty well and I'm guessing they will put in on next Sunday. But again it all goes a bit silly with the Dad business and Marcus.
Raiders of the Lost Ark, feels like a Graphic Novel with it's exaggerated characters and themes but always with a gritty realism underpinning it. The other two films are simply comic book with over stretched simple characters and a much more comedy and family feel. The new film had a chance to be a lot deeper, with Harrison not able to do some much action, the emphasis should have been more on puzzle solving, mystery and folklore like the first film had. Give us an amazing story and draw us into the mystery, don't give us a light weight comedy romp.
The cruncher for me is that Ray Winston is in it......ruined.
