A handy little tip.

I've never seen anyone post this, so I thought I'd share what I learnt on youtube with you.
You know when you hit your ON button and the machine post and lots of info goes onto the screen like BIOS version etc etc and it's normally too fast for people to read.

You can stop this screen at anytime using the pause/break key then any key to continue (on mine at least) and then pause next item etc.

I've seen a few people on here say it goes by so fast they can't read it, but never seen anyone tell them how to stop it.

Have to admit, I didnt know.

Yes, I think the OP realised that.

The idea is that you PAUSE it to see what's being detected etc...

i consider myself 'tech savvy' and never knew this little titbit, sometimes i've left the KB out so it kicks up the error.

I can't recall seeing anyone tell people to do this in say motherboard forum when they want to know BIOS version they have as it all goes by to fast.
Thinking...any forum come to that, and I've been reading them for a few years.

On most modern machines but you still need the reactions of a Grand Prix driver to hit the key during the hardware detection phase.

its just going on some computer courses (A+/microsoft desktop support)

its something you find out. never felt the need to post though. sorry ....

I never had to bother with it before then because i had never built my own pc . only done small upgardes.

i only took the courses like just less then a year ago so i havent been holding out for long

No offence taken mate, I suppose it's something you pick up.
I was watching a video on youtube about BIOS settings, and I just happen to hear the guy say this is the BIOS version....and by hitting the pause/break key you can hold it on this screen.

I thought wow, often seen people say it flies by too fast to read, and yet never seen anyone post how to pause it.

Cheers for the tip, I wasn't aware of it since I've always thought of the key as being simply for breaking out of programs that are playing up (handy when coding sometimes) or for pausing in games. I've never really needed it until now but I'm sure it'll come in handy at some point or more likely I'll forget it just when I could use it.

If you mean the paper clip in the little hole trick i have heard that it is bad for the drive and should only be used for emergencies.

havent actually tried this i have never had to . but i think there is a emergency release button under the bezel thing. though dont quote me on this.
