Who cares if it cost £146 last April it's 2008 NOW and 2gb branded kit cost £30, fact. When it drops to the same price next year then it's worth going for.
Oh and bringing up price is not pointless at all it's exactly what OP asked:
And I was merely pointing out that since you say DDR3 1600 kit at cas 8 is similar to a DDR2 kit at cas 4 then OP should save the money and go DDR2.
I apologise for posting false information about DDR3 now will you drop the attitude please?

I can afford to get DDR3 if it really is faster, but, well.. is it noticably faster (as opposed to just on paper)?
If there's not really any difference I'll save myself the money.

and no amout of smiley after "how about you drop dead" is going to disguise your undeserved agression.

2gb for £165. Now, obviously that comparison is a little unfair because they are testing it against some top corsair stuff. but the performance delta over cheaper pc6400 isnt all that huge either. i personally wouldnt spend another £250 or so for 10 more performance. £250 would buy me another 8800gtx. you get the point
