id say thats got a fair chance of being written off

Cat C/D write offs on new cars are usually where there are multiple points of impact like on yours.

2 New Doors, New Wing, new bumper, new 1/4 panel, new airbags,

not to mention all the damage behind that 1/4 panel God knows what suspension damage lies behind that.

Very likely to be written off. I've seen a few A3s written off after the airbags go off and the car value was around 15-20k, I think it costs something like 5k just to fix the front driver airbag!

Total BS.

However with 8 airbags if most of them have gone off its going to be very expensive just for the airbags.

Wouldn't count the sill as making for a dead car, that could just be the outer sill not inner.

what engine is it? here's an example from parkers

It's a 2.0 TDI SE on an 07 with 20k IIRC. I've already valued it. Parkers is rubbish.

well what extremely reliable system have you valued it with? You can pick them up for under £13k on autotrader with under 20k miles

There's a lot to do with the airbag it is not just a simple replacement. On top of that there is no guarantee it will be good as the manufacturers and Insurers don't pay discount cheap prices.

I was speaking with a dealer and he said the price would be around 4-5k if the driver airbag went off, some guy also had his go off and the insurers wrote it off.

Airbag module / Control module and wiring (perhaps) depends on the car.

£500 for the airbag / £200 for the module and £150 for the wiring, i know this cause i've priced up the work at a ford repair centre, then labour.

Clearly this isn't taking into account why the airbag went off...

Ford... This is not a Ford. There is a different level of safety and cost of equipment.

Sure fire way to have ensured you would write the car off was to have called the ambulance and complained of neck pain, then stay sitting in the car. Neck brace on, fire brigade turn up and chop the roof off.

So lets assume out of the 4 - 5k range you have given me 4k is for parts and 1k for doing the job (which it wouldn't be) thats 11hours at BMW £90/hr...

You think VW parts are going to cost 4.7times more than Ford ones?

I mentioned Audi as an example, I will assume that the cost for the VW will be at least 2-2.5k, the bare minimum.

*edit* BMW are not the only dealer to charge high prices per hour.
