How Many Viruses

(Or Virii, But i didn't want to Geek out) have you had or seen at most?

I'm currently cleaning a system today, that still has Service pack 1 on it, and a completely out of date Norton Antivirus.

Anyways, Long story short, So far I have quarantined 22,000 infected files.

And it's only at 55%

Until today the most i had encountered were just over 1000 with my uncle.

but this takes the cake it really does.

Anyone ever encountered these sort of infestations?

I used to write AntiVirus software back in the early 90's. Trust me I've seen lots.

15 odd thousand I have seen at once on a machine I had in for a health check.

i ran a nonupdated nod32 on a mate's clogged pc once

it had an 80gb hard drive, it had about 50mb free, nod32 found over 500,000 infected files, and it cleared up 60gb of virus files

when he moved into our flat, i made sure he had his own internet & was not on our network

9k was my top I think, but I stopped scanning at that point and recommended a format.

I haven't had a single virus since like 2001 and I got my first computer around 2000 I believe.

and nah nothing that bad, my aunt had a few but it was mainly Spyware rather than viruses.

I've found 18,000 of all sorts of nasties on a PC I was asked to clear up for a family friend.

Had a few around 1000 mark in our workshop. I think an odd one had a lot more and I posted it on here, will try to find it now

Had a system in today which only had SP1 on it as well - still a few around :/

ah, that's good then, Because I always hate writing Viruses and thinking it was bad grammar

I've decided against finishing that virus scan by the way, Once I saw that nearly every exe file in the windows system folder was infected, I decided to format. lol

Back up her My Documents, And wipe the thing clean

Best policy there - but be sure to scan whatever you back up.

None found on my own systems - the closest I've got was finding a virus on a compilation CD, and of course the screaming hordes received via email (not all of them spam I may add).

I found one that had cloned itself onto an unprotected network share on a PC I 'inherited' but it seems it didn't activate.
