Asrock's X48

It may not be rocket science for some on here but i gaurantee it will put off a lot of people for whom it means tinkering with things they don't like tinkering with. Not everyone likes to play around with things they just like to install them and they work :D.

Yes, those folks do exist, but I bet they are in the minority of people prepared to shell out £139 for a motherboard.

Thats not bad price still, and still similar to X38 prices.

X58 is due end of this year so really this is gonna be as good as it gets till really early 2009 when the newer socket mobos+ newer intel chips arrive anyhow.

Id imagine an 9450 or 9650/Asrock X48 would last u a life time anyhow as in life time to us = 3 months ;)

Seriously...

To those saying it's good for watercooling...why? Watercooling reduces airflow around the socket which this will depend on and it'll be useless for any sort of overclocking due to the poor PWM.

Also, placement is shocking - ATX power and the 2 extra SATA - WTF?

The Combo DDR2+DDR3 is pointless as you wont waste money on DDR3 for this cheap board.

The only market this should have is for budget stock systems that want Crossfire without overclocking.

Oh dear.

1. It's an Intel X48 Chipset - just like all the others.
2. It's basically an ASUS X48 board without the fancy cooling.
3. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it won't overclock.
4. Just because DDR3 is pricey now, doesn't mean it will be pricey in 6 months time. Then it might be handy to have DDR3 slots.
5. The placement of the power connectors isn't ideal, but what is?
6. ASRock are actually building a very good reputation for good boards on the cheap.

My interest has just been lost.:(

Would rather have A GIGABYTE for 20 quid more.

80 would have been a better price.

Well, if it was £139 list then it would probably be cheaper retail, no? I think £80 is unrealistic given the price of the actual chipset.

Am I missing something here?

139 is not cheap?

Looking at what Asrock's Current Flagship Motherboards are retailing at - sub £70 - £80, even £139 is not too bad for the current Enthusiast Chipset.

But I would reckon it going for £120-£130 inc. vat online (or cheaper), by far the cheapest X48 Offering so far, especially for someone not willing to shed out nearly £200 for a Motherboard. Plus it's got Solid State Caps.

So far EVERYTHING is speculation, if it is slower, how well it clocks, what it will cost - until we actually see it listed in the stores and see some tests then we'll know. I think it is eally good that for every expensive ROG board that is being produced in an ASUS factory, there is someone in an ASRock plant producing a very similar pattern X48 board at a substantial discount. I realy like ASRock - I've had a few and they are generally much better than their reputation would suggest.

I have also had a few asrock mobo's,

The dual SATA II being one of the best.

Great mobo's at a great price.

Still think though they are going against what they are all about with this

mobo if the price is indeed £139

DFI come in at 142 delivered I know where my extra 3 quid would go.

Just for resale alone.

Asrock mobos are budget boards at the heart of it

Yeah, I agree with a lot of people here...Asrock make great boards for the price, but £139 is too much. The board I have is (was) their top of the line motherboard and it only set me back about £60 if I remember correctly (£78 delivered I think.) For me to choose them as an X48 solution I think they would have to be closer to £100-110. Like I said about the P35 boards they made - some review sites have got their FSB up to 560+Mhz - these new Asrocks are no laughing matter.
