Useful tip for BMW owners in the South

I've been doing some phoning today and this offer really is fantastic. For comparison, I telephoned my local dealer and they want £399 for Inspection II, while Scothall only want £265! My local one couldn't even believe they were offering it for that!

It's not a simple task as it involves the removal of the dashboard. Part itself is £140ish.

Ah, gotcha.
The difficulty of the job varies from car to car, but to be fair I'd say that given the cost of the part the dealer is only charging approximately 2 hours labour. If that's the case I doubt it's a complicated job and would do it myself (although if you don't own a set of tools this isn't possible).

My local BMW Dealer (Coopers @ Chelmsford) have quoted £125 per hour labour rate :(

Madness! I only want the DME upgraded to the latest software!

It's 2.5 hours labour - but taking my interior apart is something BMW can do so I can moan at them if it rattles after.

It's more to do with the materials BMW chose to use, rather than some magical ability their fitters possess. You could handle a job like this, I reckon.

I can see where Fox is coming from.

He probably could handle it, but he doesn't need to have to. I would estimate it to take a whole day for Fox to do it, and then any troubles after that he has to fix. That could include taking the dash back off and a whole load of other hassle.

If he goes to BMW and it doesn't come back perfect, he just walks back in to the dealership and tells them to sort it.

For lots of stuff the cost of paying BM to do it doesn't make sense. For stripping trim, especially a dash.. I think unless you're really comfortable with it, just leave it to someone else! :p
