Gigabyte: "Asus Lied & Fooled Customers"

Well the title is alarmist.

That article just states Gigabytes claims, it doesn't even lean one way or another, just echos and quotes their technical team, doesn't even give any Asus counter arguements or anything (i expect in the next few days there will be an identical type 'news' article from ASUS).

I wouldn't base my purchasing on fluff like that, i have had several ASUS boards over the years and all have been great. Im not one for falling in love with a manufacturer though, i'd happily take a diff mobo if it performed better.

Cant even call this an article, it's just a bunch of quotes till right at the end when it mentions "In related news, TG Daily has story about the Gigabyte event, but in an entirely different light. Apparently, an editor from a well known website made way with confidential Gigabyte information, and TG Daily was told that the editor cabbed straight to Asus’ headquarters with sensitive Gigabyte data. This act alone makes things more difficult for all parties, especially those hosting and those attending events like these down the line."

That they got from a different source!

Firstly it's very hard for any company to make claims about another without having the information first cleared by their lawyers. Libel trials can cost millions, and being found to be lying about a competitor isn't exactly good for a company. Whilst I'm not saying that what Gigabyte are saying is gospel, I am saying that they would have thought this through before making claims of this nature to some of the best known hardware sites. These sites would slaughter them if they found the claims to be false.

Secondly, the last paragraph relates to a different, but related story. Namely that one editor stole sensitive info from Gigabyte and may have given it to ASUS. Something that by itself is a very serious event if found to be true.

yep! Those graphs of the power consumption paint 1000 words too. The concerning part for me is the capacitors though.

Not an asus fan after the an8-sli deciding it was dead..... I doubt this artical is the whole truth though (as gigabite could stand to make a fair bit out of this "news")

Can't say I've ever had a problem with an ASUS board.

I'm a big fan of both ASUS and Gigabyte though and the two are always high on my lists when looking at new boards :)

I used to be an ASUS fan but since being treated with nothing but contempt when trying to RMA a couple of gfx cards last year they are off my list now.

GIGABYTE used to be the one that supplied the lower specced but reliable gear, now they are both cutting edge and reliable ( as anyone else ). In the machines ive built over the past year, probably about 50+, ive only used Gigabyte mainboards and gfx cards where possible. Not had one problem come back to me yet so reliability wise im quite happy.

To be honest it wouldnt suprise me in the least to find ANY manufacturer trying to cut costs by using cheaper components if they thought they could get away with it. Remember the enthusiast market isnt so concerned about price... more about quality. The mainstay of the business is to sell em cheap and in large numbers to oem's and others. A saving of even $1 per board will soon mount up when you ship 50,000 a month of each type!

Only ever had one Asus board and it was DOA, so my experience hasn't been great.
They did have a subdivision which made fantastic ISDN TAs in the late 1990s however (sub 20ms latency).

I've faithfully stuck to Asus though when trying an upgrade route I had terrible problems with setting up RAID arrays using an M3A32 MVP. I'm deffo choosing another manufacturer in the future :/

Ive had few issues before with Asus boards but nothing so serious, most have been reliable and good.

Then again my Pcs tend to get sold within 1-2 years so never do get a chance to find out how reliable the Asus boards are.

Ive seen plenty customised Gigabyte boards within purpleworlds pcs and they tend to go wrong pretty quick, not sure why exactly thats only reason ive never owned a giga board, but gotta admit they look very good.

Still as previously said to come out publicly and attack perhaps the no1 brand.... not a good idea ;) it can easily be turned against them if there wrong or either that the Asustechys will have a Quake showdown with the Gigabytetecys and they will win.

SOOOOOOOOO, what brand P45 to choose :D Abit/Gigabyte/Asus/DFI/MSI/Foxconn(?)/J&W?

Anyway, will we ever find out the truth about this, I hope so :) Like Cob said, before making such statements as this you have to know what you are saying cause this can destroy companies.

So you don't like Asus after a board failed? You should know, being a computer enthusiast, that components can and sometimes do fail, it's the way it is.

Gigabyte are my number one choice still, I think the 965P series of boards are fantastic!

Asus have always been secondary though, they have moved up considerably in my books though due to the fantastic Xonar sound card range.
