Aliens whats your view?

I absolutley believe there's other intelligent life, we just cant be the only ones.

If you think about it tho, we as a race have had problems with sustaining development in our world. Considering Egyptians/Romans and how they used to live there lives, then look at mediaval times.

If there was other life with these technological advances then they have no need to come to our planet really on a regular basis, just like we havent been back to the moon.

I believe that there is no life form out there that we dont already know about, unless it is way out there in space past the solar system which we will never be able to get too. :(

well the solar system is an incredibly tiny place and iirc we have already sent a probe out of our system quite a few years ago.

Although i don't think we'll get manned extra solar missions till we invent big ships in which people would live their whole lives for generations or some form of cryogenics.

That or FTL/equivalent.

There are also a lo of Elvis sightings...

Also why exactly would aliens not want to say hello? but instead continue to abduct alcoholics and the mentally infirm (Americans)?
Have you saw the Disclosure Project? Those people certainly arn't Alcoholics or mentally ill... well definitely not all of them.

The thing is with this subject, people automatically have a wall up and humour comes out. Its never taken seriously, but when you actually look into the reports from hundreds of very capable people in high places throughout the world, and you hear these people explain the events they witnessed then... its takes that "foolish" tag away and becomes way more serious.

I don't doubt that some of the reports from the hundreds of interviewed people who took part in the Disclosure Project are a combination of mistaken weather phenomena or possibly made-up stories to get attention. However not all of these responsible people are in this category. You could also say that it doesn't necessarily mean that the events are of extra terrestrial origin, however when you read/listen to some of the reports... you can't help but consider it a major possibility.

I believe your talking about Voyager 1, it was launched in 1977, its currently the farthest man made object known. Its currently leaving the heliopause traveling at 17 KMS.

I always find it amusing how people jump from 'UFO' to 'aliens' as if it's the only explaination for an unusual object being seen in the sky.
Isn't that ever the truth. Technically any airborne object from that Boeing 747 or Airbus 320 that you probably flew on for your last holiday to the humble weather balloon is a UFO until it is identified, yet none of them have aliens on board (well, not unless you count the men with hair straighteners :p).

real astronauts dont talk like that
True. There's an (probably unwritten) rule dating back to at least the Apollo days that Astronauts just don't get hysterical about objects they may observe. Anyone who has watched NASA TV for a reasonable number of missions will know that (at the time) unidentified objects are observed surprisingly regularly, particularly with the Shuttle. Usually they turn out to be errant plastic bags that some tech forgot to remove, or a chunk of ice liberated during flight - again, no alien influences present.

An opinion in a long line of opinions that offer a far more ridiculous explanation than the original item being discussed. Why say alien when unidentified could have served as a more reasonable description?
You also need to bear in mind that Americans use the word 'alien' colloquially in a much more liberal sense than we do (I believe to mean anyone who isn't a US citizen). For example, it's entirely plausible an American would refer to you or I as an alien. For this reason, the word could easily be used in a manner that might be misconstrued by others.

Is it still transmitting? Won't it get mashed up in the Oort cloud?

These sighting could be of civilian crafts that are out on a stroll or even tourists!

But seriously, in a utopian society, they would have no need for defensive or offensive capabilities....such as cloaking. They have no need to hide themselves, or maybe they under estimated our capabilities in spotting them?

Erm ... I'd disagree with that, it's all well and good if you have one utopian society but if there are multiple alien groups out there then they would probably have something to defend against them. Also there's a good chance or defensive and minimal offensive devices being necessary if you are traveling at any speed to cope with general debris which could impact on the vessel.

Yes I'm convinced something is going on. I think real cases are rare but there are ones that are truly unexplained with reliable whitenesses and radar to back it up. cases involving military pilots especially those where they have locked onto the objects are pretty impressive.

Watch this ITV news report regarding 2 "mile wide" UFO's seen over the Channel with Pilot and Radar confirmation:

You really have to research the subject, unfortunately it has such a stigma and has been latched onto by the new age crowd. There are some amazing cases out there that deserve far more attention than they get. I might put the best evidence together and make a thread for all you sceptics to pick apart.

As to being aliens...well I don't know, unless we actually hear it from them.

If you take Alien to mean any organism that isnt from Earth, or even our solar system then yes, there are definately aliens.

However due to the unimaginable distances between stars, it is very unlikely that any intelligent life would ever meet.

What I never understood is how it took us 60 years to go from the first plane to landing on the moon but since then we've hardly advanced in space faring terms :(

We're yet to find a 'killer application' benefit to space travel. Until we do, it's not going to change that much.

Because it's enormously expensive and there's currently no significant incentive for governments to invest in it. There are also many, many technological barriers that need to be overcome before real space exploration can happen.

It makes me angry the way this subject is treated by the media. And the BBC story linked in the OP is a perfect example. The video is a total p-take and both it and the written story choose to focus on one nutjob who claims to have been in contact with an alien called Harold (or whatever) for years until he was killed by another race of aliens. Of all the tons of data in the decade's worth of investigations why pick that one out? Just to make the whole subject seem like a joke and anybody who gives it a moments thought must be a nutjob themselves, that's why. Disgusting.

And before anybody starts - I don't believe in aliens 100%. We might be the only ones out there, sure. But the subject is extremely interesting and there are far too many reports by reliable, professional people to rubbish this story the way the BBC have.

Strangely enough for OcUK, I don't think anyone in this thread has discredited the possibilty of aliens existing. It would be daft to.
