NASA to Announce massive discovery

I would wish it something closer to home: microbiological life on mars but nothing to do with the observatory in question :(

If it's a new insight into the nature of dark matter or dark energy, that would be far from 'boring' - it would be the most important scientific advancement of the 21st centuary so far, possibly of the past 50 years.

Dark matter / energy makes up 95% of the universe... and we have no idea what it is!
I was making a generalisation and referring to the general populace who probably couldn't care less - not the scientific types like you or I who actually take some notice of such things. :)

They said in the last 50 years, this has been in-development longer :D

I had a thread deleted from the DNF forums for a joke like that. The OP had asked what the development cost for DNF was. I replied that I thought it would be difficult to express it in current value, as I'd heard that development started with a gift of 100,000 sesterces from the Emperor Augustus and how much was that worth in today's money?

I thought it was funny.

The best comment in the forum was about the forum:
The sad thing about the release will be the lack of a reason to check in here anymore. It's like having friends in a UFO nut forum.

Fair enough :)

I agree though, there's exciting in scientific terms (like a new theoretical framework, or an observation which does not agree with either quantum mechanics or relativity), and then there's exciting in general-population terms (like a new feature on a mobile phone, or an asteroid shaped like a penis).

Wont be about dark matter thats theory isnt 50years old?

My bet is they have found a planet the same size as earth.

[edit]
or its aliens, maybe its not a coincidence the uk released all its ufo documents today.

I believe NASA will broadcast the announcement on their streamed tv channel:

linky

[edit] as far as I can see is isn't being televised live on NASA tv, it will just be a live audio stream from the following link (this page will provide a link to the stream when they've set it up later today):

linky

The broadcast is 1pm EDT, so it's 6pm for us (EDT is UTC-4, we're on UT+1 as it's BST), someone please check me lol

I can't find anything from NASA saying that it's on their channel, but other sources has stated so. Will investigate...
