Budgeting for 1 bedroom flat in London, need help

Depending on your budget then you may want to look at Acton, there's some pretty reasonable places there. If you've got a bit more money, then maybe West Hamstead area?

Do you absolutely have to live in London? If you work in Acton thats easilly commutable from places like high wycombe which will be half the price of most London places. Kensigntons a bit more of a trip but still not too bad.

All our friends are in London, and the cost of commuting from outside sometimes offsets the savings.

I think I just found the most incredible bargain, for a 2 bedroom place! Likely to be a mistype though, has to be!

Lol, was a mistype, 2 bedroom with garden just off clapham common for 380pcm, lol.

Actual estate agent website has it at the real 380pw, booo!

1 Bedroom penthouse appartment WC1 London Holborn.
Monthly rent: £1300
Council Tax: £160/month
Interwibble: £18/month and get around 19Mb down
Gas/power etc ends up being around £60 month I think - I'd have to check.
Water included in the rent.

Me and the girl walk to work, I take around 15 mins as I work in Hatton Garden and she takes around 40 min to Victoria so we spend £0 on public transport.

People here are paying a GRAND a month in rent?!?!?! for a 1 bed?!?!?

Why on earth would anyone want to live in central london is beyond me!!!

0 commute, parks for Africa, friends really close by, clean, great restaurants, night clubs, museums, scenery. The list goes on, London has insane amounts of great stuff to offer.

When you and your partner earn a decent amount £1000/Month doesn't sound like so much.

We go travelling in comfort at least 3 times a year. Already done New Zealand, Thailand and New York this year with Amalfi (Italy) and Eqypt on the books.

Not saying it doesnt:) Just the thought of 1k a month for a 1 bed flat/apartment sounds astronomical. Thats more than a lot of people earn a month before any taxes.

Stayed in a flat for a few days over the weekend;

Area: Fulham/Putney
Rent: £1700
Council tax: Not sure
Phone/Internet: £25
Gas: Not sure
Electricity: £25/month i think
Water: Included

Bottom flat overlooking thames, free swimming pool included.

Does help its split between 3 though!

Annoyingly, our combined debt (cards and loans) sucks up like £800 a month. If we were wiser with our money when we were younger, we could get a much nicer place :(

Wow that is crazy rent to be paying on one bed flats.

Is it really worth it?

Why not move somewhere else and get much better flats for a fraction of the cost?

1) We like London
2) Leave London, earn less
3) Friends are all in London
4) Jobs are in London
e) We like London!

:D

Yep, Central London is great, if a little expensive. The biggest kick in the balls in my two bed is the council tax at £150pcm  Lambeth!

Area: Harlington, UB3
Rent: £650
Council tax: Included
Phone/Internet: -
Gas: Included
Electricity: Included
Water: Included

Krooton, I suggest you try Hammersmith, its less expensive but still close to where both of you work...

Hate to hijack the thread, but I have a very quick question:

Could I afford a 1 bed flat in London at £1k p/m if I'm earning about £34k pre tax? I won't be paying the council tax either.
