Whilst waiting for my DVI cable to be delivered, I have hooked up my rig to the TV with an S-Video cable. The display is very blurry and it's proving quite hard to read text. Is this normal for an S-Video output?

yes this is normal, as your PC has to scale text and other fine details to suit the S-video cable (Which has a maximum resolution of 640x480) then your TV blows it up.

correct me if im wrong

ah. i can see why you worried but yeah S-video is old and decrepit.

S-video is still perfectly fine for what it was designed for - displaying good quality standard definition TV (720*576 at 25 fps interlaced). For the best picture set resolution to 720*576 and set sharpness to max (or to as high as possible without it flickering).
