This Magnificent Man in His Flying Machine

If it takes off (:p), it might make a decent sport along the lines of the Red Bull Air Race. Plenty of scope for improvement and innovation.

Cant watch the video, how does the thing take off? Can it take off from standing or does it require a hang glider-esque start?

In the video it seems to be a prototype, he goes up in a plane, starts the small jet engines and jumps out, the wings then fold out to create the full wing,

At the end of the video though it gave some facts about the test flight, 5 min duration, 120-300kmh speed range and 1000ft/min climbing at 100kmh (iirc), and then went on to say that the next version will be able to do aerobatics, vertical climb and also actually take off as well, guessing partially down to the extra power needed to do vertical climb...

Really cool.

BUT he's been around 2 years now - only suddenly he's all over the news! I remember watching the first "human flight" rigid wingsuit videos when I only had a few skydives and just thinking "That's what I want to do."
