Sony’s PlayStation 3 videogames system has been voted the “console choice for teens” following a Global Youth Survey conducted by Habbo.

A total of 58,486 individuals aged between 11-18 spanning 31 markets took part in the survey, of which 69 per cent labelled the PS3 as either ‘good’ or ‘great’. The Wii followed with 64 per cent and the Xbox 360 at 58 per cent.

Good news then, heh :p

Of course you are not surprised, You are a teen and you own a ps3. You are the reason for the statistic!!! you can joke about hype trains and stuff but you are the person this survey is talking about! :D

I was being extremely sarcastic. :p Obviously it's not showing.

Basically, I love Command and conquer and would only play it on a PC for the correct feel, same with half life games

I love MGS, RE5 and Final Fantasy and would only play it on PS3 for the correct feel. Going on the older ones, Obviously I've not played those games yet :p

I love 90% of the current games for the 360 and so have got used to them, And don't think I could play them on a PS3 now, COD4, I'm so used to the 360 controller, I'd probably be bias when it came to the PS3 version now.

Wii i've not played enough to give a real judgement.

I find it strange that people prefer a console, It's just the way I see it, If there's a game out on that console I wanna buy, I'll buy the console! :p Obviously there's preference towards games library's on consoles though, and I guess that can play a huge role, it definately does with me

Buying due to brand is strange

The only reason for this result is that the PS3 like rocks and stuff and the 360 is like pants and that, and anyway Wii is for girls and kids...or maybe girls who are kids....oh yeah and not a "REAL" console for hardcore gamer like PS3 and PCs are for nerds......................COME ON!!!! I'll fight you all in the playground NOW!
 
So the "cool" kids want a PS3 and all the pre teen girls want a wii :D Surveys are so much fun.

And this from paragraph from the report

The report finished: "As Sony and Xbox strive to broaden their console's appeal, from hardcore to casual gamer, the results of the survey seem to indicate that gender, not previous gaming experience, determines console choice. Regardless of their level of interest towards gaming boys prefer the PS3 and girls prefer the Wii.

My interpretation of the survey wasnt what console they owned, but what console they said was "good or very good".

I think its common knowledge that the PS3 brand is much bigger than Xbox.

Yeah, it's just about brands. The 360 did a lot better than I thought it would. Regardless of consoles sold, attachment rates etc I think MS has done an excellent job of brand building this time around.
 
Well thsi is true tbh there must be at least 50 teens tht got the ps3 for christmas this year from my school and were all 15-16 and there was a lot of girls tht got ds. I think most teens fot the psp and avoided the xbox i think there 2 maybe 3 teens who i know who have them and there the spoilt ones who get everything. The ps3 just offers more to us. :D

Is it? I would have agreed if you'd said the Playstation brand, but specifically the PS3...? Bigger than the XBox (i.e. encompassing both the original and the 360) ...? I'm not sure if I'd agree with this. I think the initial high price, the delays incurred, the perceived lack of games, etc... all hurt the PS3 brand.

Why do I get the feeling I'm gonna get flamed for saying those points? I know the price was good value for money, I know the delay wasn't Sony's fault, I know the lack of games is subjective, etc... but I'm talking about the effect these had on the PS3 brand not whether they were real or not.

I'd still have to say yes. People associate Playstation with PS3 without even thinking about. PS3 is the next in line from the massively successful PS2 and as such the common gamer is just going to go for more of the same with a new number (Look at the success of EA sports titles, FIFA, Need for Speed, etc.)

Delays and such don't really affect the casual gamer in my opinion as they just pick up a new game when its on the shelves, not necessarily reading previews or reviews.

(All of this is just in my opinion)
 
my gran calls my 360 a playstation just because the playstation brand is so big not sure what it means to this survey but just shows how sony has rooted themselves into non gamers as well as the casual market

Yeah, thats same for a few old folk I know. Playstation has become a term, rather than a console for some. They call anything a Playstation if you have a pad in your hand

See I still sometimes say to my mates that im playing playstation when im playing my 360. Its just something that happens. I don't have a preference over a particular brand.

It used to be the case that people played "Nintendo" when NES/SNES were big
