Morning all, putting together a rig for my housemate and looking for a check over from you lot.

Its just really for general use, but looking for a good lifetime from it and plenty of oomph. Lots of relatively intensive CPU stuff (par repairing/extraction etc.) The Q6600 will be enough at 2.4, but i would like to aim for an easy 3.2 is the spec allows for it.

Don't need a HDD/DVD or a particularly good graphics card, most strenous thing will be watching HD films, hence the ATi selection.
OcUK value ip35 was first choice but no news on stock for that (Gibbo?) so i figure the gigabyte is the closest thing, will i still be able to get a stable oc from it?

Case/PSU selection is up in the air, started with an antec 300+corsair 520 but tried to cut back a bit with what looks like a good bundle from ocuk.

Monitor wise, 19/20" with DVI, cannot decide. Hyundai ImageQuest N91W / OcUK value 20", varying reports on whether it has dvi.

Errrm, yeah so suggestions peeps?

Hello there :)

This should get you to 3ghz with the quad and most ppl use this card for HD Playback with films but the 256mb is gonna impact games, but its in budget

Onboard GFX on 780G chipset is pretty decent from reviews ;)

That case choice looks bang on the money, only that asus monitor has no DVI input which is really a must.

hp7909: As much as the new Phenoms have improved, Q6600 is really my prefered.

maybe have a look at the following swapped the q6600 for the 8400 wolfdale, could always replace it with a 7200/8200.

tbh what you want for the money amd might be the best route, they are solid processors and coupled with the better overall spec by doing it that way you are likely to have a faster system.

Just ended up ordering this......

Everything together i think its the best system, thanks for the spec help. Sacrificed the DVI connection but stayed closer to budget. Ended up getting him a hdd because the 120 i was gonna donate is a bit old skool, so i didnt want it dragging down the whole system.
