The future of the OcUK photography forum.

It would appear that OcUK no longer sell photography equipment.

Which leads to a couple of questions...

1) Is the future of the photography forum secure? I certainly wouldn't want to lose it. It is my favorite photography forum.

2) Does this mean that we can relax the rules about not referring to photographic businesses who might be competitors?

Dont see why it would be lost. There is a motors forum after all.

The photo forum existed long before they ever sold photo stuff, so presumably you're fine about #1.

I highly doubt this section of the forum will vanish, and as far as im concerned it is safe. If there are ideas of closing it, I will be at the front of the picket line.

I have already raised this issue with the rest of the mod team and am waiting an answer. for the moment just assume that thay are competitors, but if the situation changes I'll let everyone know as soon as I hear.

I was going to say if OCUK are not selling camera stuff, that seems a little OTT. I suppose they may be contemplating re-adding the photog line at a later date...

besides, even if the forum disappeared I'm sure we can setup one if it ever came to that

No need. There's always www.talkphotography.co.uk where a whole load of of ocukers also frequent.

As it's one of the Big mans hobbys I doubt this section would ever close, Why would it anyway there are loads of people interested & actively using it.

Why on earth would this part of the forum close? There are loads of bits of the forum that don't necessarily bring business directly.

Yeah, they had some 350D kits, some point and shoots etc for a while. Some lenses were listed at some point, but I don't think any actually ever came into stock. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm guessing part of the competitor thing is still memory cards, external HDs etc, which a lot of photo places sell. It's a pretty tenuous link, though.

I think that the reason a lot of other camera shops are competitors is because they also sell stuff OCUK do, like laptops, memory cards etc..
